1. Black Antler Eatery

Website: https://blackantler.co.nz/
Address: 111 Clyde Road, Browns Bay, Auckland
Contact: 09-242-2466
Hours: Monday to Sunday: 7:30 AM–9:00 PM
Must-Try: Beast Burger
Black Antler Eatery is my favourite reliable option for any time of day. Since it’s open from morning till evening, I can drop in whether I need an early coffee or unwind with a casual dinner.
You’ll find a massive menu covering everything. There are hearty breakfasts and specialty coffee, as well as gourmet burgers and amazing wood-fired pizza.
The space is designed to feel elegant yet comfortable, accommodating both early coffee drinkers and late dinner guests.
I personally loved and highly recommend the Beast Burger, which was truly next-level comfort food. It has a Wagyu beef patty, which is uncommon in most burgers.
While the main dishes are excellent, be aware that premium items like their prime steaks can be on the expensive side.
Still, Black Antler Eatery really values good portions and food quality, along with creative specialty coffees, making it a highly recommended hub for food lovers.
Customer Reviews
They really go all out in the presentation of the food. It always looks amazing and is super delicious. They are so friendly and willing to serve. As a Coeliac, they have been helpful in making sure I am able to receive my food Gluten-free. The view of the ocean during the daytime is classic, and they have a comforting fireplace going in the evening. We really enjoyed eating here.

Quite pricey, but the food is good. Would love for more seafood options. I would definitely recommend the chowder. Everyone is kind, friendly and would always strike up a conversation, and always checks in. When I had my wisdom tooth surgery, they went out of their way to make sure that the accommodation I asked for was taken care of. Amazing staff, amazing place. Definitely coming back!

2. Palato

Address: The Victor, 4 Bute Road, Browns Bay, Auckland
Contact: 09-948-0954
Hours: Tuesday to Saturday: 5:00 PM–10:00 PM (last seating at 9:00 PM)
Must-Try: Mafaldine with the 14-hour Lamb Ragù
Palato stands out for couples and foodies because it offers fresh, housemade pasta with a modern, non-traditional twist.
This isn’t your grandma’s classic Italian place. The chefs intentionally incorporate global flavour profiles into the dishes, making for a truly innovative dining experience.
The Mafaldine with the 14-hour Lamb Ragù was the star of my visit, and I highly recommend you try it too!
The lamb falls apart at the touch of a fork, coated in a thick, rich sauce.
Palato is also super dedicated to using fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients, which means the menu changes often, keeping things exciting.
Keep in mind, however, that Palato focuses exclusively on dinner service. This is not an ideal spot for early birds or those seeking a midday lunch.
Customer Reviews
Fabulous, freshly made pasta dishes and desserts with delicious wine matches and friendly personal service. Thank you Palato. We couldn’t be happier with our visit and will visit again. A buzzing spot with a great atmosphere in the middle of Browns Bay, we are so lucky to have a restaurant of this calibre in our neighbourhood.

Address: 4 Anzac Road, Browns Bay, Auckland
Contact: 09-476-6041
Hours: Tuesday to Sunday: 12:00 PM–9:30 PM
Must-Try: Tonkotsu Ramen
Ramen Takara is the best place to go for authentic, soul-warming Japanese flavours, especially after a day at the beach.
This place carries a real Japanese heritage and legacy, tracing its roots back to a ramen shop at the foot of Mount Fuji.
Their commitment to freshness is clear: every dish is made without MSG or artificial additives.
Ramen Takara’s signature Tonkotsu Ramen is incredibly rich, creamy, and deeply satisfying. I love that it hits all the right authentic notes, and it’s an absolute must-try.
The restaurant also has a diverse menu, and they cater well to different dietary restrictions with their clearly marked vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options.
Just be warned, it gets busy! Since only half the tables are kept for walk-ins, expect a short wait during peak hours.
Customer Reviews
Absolutely amazing! The tonkotsu ramen was rich, creamy, and full of flavour. Easily one of the best I’ve ever had. The service was just as impressive: warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The atmosphere made the whole experience even better. Cozy, vibrant, and perfect for a relaxed meal. Can’t wait to go back!

It was packed on Saturday night, so we had to wait around 20 minutes for a table. You should definitely make a reservation before you go. The ramen was awesome, and the service was great too.

Must-Try: Jack Daniel’s BBQ Ribs
The Browns Bay Brewing Co. is the perfect destination if you love the beach, craft beer, or dining with a group.
This spot is a true “craft beer heaven,” with 22 constantly changing taps of New Zealand’s top brews, plus their own small-batch beers made on-site.
On top of that, its prime beachfront location gives you stunning views of the Hauraki Gulf, which is a major bonus to your dining experience.
I always recommend the Jack Daniel’s BBQ Ribs. It stood out to me because of how meaty, tender, and smothered in a sauce it was, making it the perfect dish to pair with any craft beer.
To match the fun and chill vibe of the restaurant, they also feature live entertainment and other events. This gives quite a lovely social vibe to the place.
An important thing to note is that the menu is explicitly designed for sharing. This can be tricky if you’re dining solo or just want a traditional, individual main course.
Customer Reviews
Great location by the beach with the skatepark & playground across the road for the kids as well.
The staff are efficient & friendly, and the food is really nice.
They have their own microbrewery at the venue so I’d recommend a ‘beer paddle’ if you’re keen to try something new!
- Adam Frisby | Google Review
What a great spot. The food is always epic… the beer is sensational. You just can’t beat the Ribs. I have travelled around the world and have NEVER found anything close! But… I don’t just go for the food. The selection of Andrews brewed beer is unbeatable. He has won so many awards for his brews. It is a real pleasure to pop in and try out his recent… and to be honest… his past craft beer. They also have a wide selection of “normal” beer for the less adventurous. The team are local and friendly.

Their focus on offering a wide range of non-alcoholic beverages also makes it a truly inclusive, relaxed dining destination for families and those who prefer an alcohol-free dining experience.
What stood out to me was the excellent and friendly service that I experienced from the staff. Although sometimes the food can take a little while to come out when it’s busy, the quality of service makes up for it.
Overall, it’s a great go-to for high-quality food, fresh ingredients, and a casual, satisfying experience.

We were the only group on a Monday at 7:30 pm. The service was friendly. The food took a while to come out, but the drinks were fast so that helped. We each enjoyed our dish. I had the Lamb Kofta Charcoal dish. It was tasty and very filling.

Lovely food here with various Middle Eastern dishes on offer. My friends got the lamb & chicken on rice, which they highly enjoyed. I got the fattoush salad which was delicious. The atmosphere was nice and quiet, and everything was clean. There were also really appealing cabinet deserts on offer!!
