When it comes to comfort food, a burger is a solid choice that just won’t let you down. But with so many restaurants offering burgers nowadays, finding something new and unique can be pretty challenging.

But don’t worry because we’ll make sure your next burger bite is nothing short of special and exceptional! Well, at least if you take our advice and head over to these amazing burger joints in Auckland.

RE Burger

Monday to Wednesday: 11:30 AM to 9:30 PM

Thursday: 11:30 AM to 10:00 PM

Friday and Saturday: 11:30 AM to 10:30 PM

Sunday: 11:30 AM to 9:30 PM

There are just some burgers that are meant to be shared worldwide, and that’s exactly what RE Burgers are! These burgers that were once roaming the streets of Dunedin are now capturing the hearts of Kiwis in Auckland!

With stacks of mouthwatering ingredients sandwiched between milk buns, each of their burgers is sure to satisfy anyone. But if we have to choose the best one, it’s the Sticky Bishop, packed with NZ beef, streaky bacon, cheese, aioli, smoky BBQ, and more!

Their fries and onion rings are also just as equally good as their burgers. Not only are they crispy and delicious, but they come in huge portions, so you’re sure to have a filling and satisfying meal!

Pro Tip: Follow them on Instagram because they often announce special promo codes there. The codes can sometimes give you free loaded fries, so don’t miss out!

Burger Geek

Location: 175 Symonds Street, Eden Terrace, Auckland 1010, New Zealand

Contact details: (09) 869 3467

Operating hours:

Monday to Saturday: 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM; 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Sunday: 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Burger Geek—the name says it all. These guys are burger nerds, and we can’t get enough of their geeky obsession with making everything from scratch!

You won’t find any frozen patties here as they grind their beef blend daily, using a mix of wagyu and Angus cuts because only the best will do for them! Oh, and did we also mention that they cure their bacon for seven days before smoking it on-site?

Their menu isn’t as huge as other burger joints in the city, but it’s enough to give you an unforgettable meal. From the classic American-style Krabby to the vegan, black bean patty-loaded Zim, there’s something for every burger-loving geek here!

Pro Tip: This place is really small with only two six-seater tables, so it’s really not the best hangout space. If you’d like a place to hang out, the Grey Lynn location has a bigger space and might be able to accommodate you.

Jo Bro’s Burgers

Location: Shop 4/490 South Titirangi Road, Titirangi, Auckland 0604, New Zealand

Contact details: +6421 285 6276, [email protected]

Friday and Saturday: 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM

Sunday: 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM

Jo Bro’s Burgers is one of the go-to places for people looking for some classic American burgers. Though they make their burgers with a no-fuss and simple approach, they sure deserve all the fuss and praise for how flavourful and juicy their patties are!

The joint relies on high-quality ingredients and its own housemade sauce to make sure its burgers are unique and flavourful. Their potato buns are baked daily, and they only use prime NZ beef for the best results.

One of their best sellers is the Thicc Burger that comes with a 170-g beef patty, NZ cheddar, onion, iceberg, tomato, and Jo Bro’s original sauce. If that doesn’t sound filling enough, you can also add bacon, egg, pickles, and even avocado to your burger!

Pro Tip: Got an event coming up? Jo Bro’s Burgers’ 80s Food Truck is still up for hire, and they might just be the perfect catering service for you!
The food truck also sometimes goes around Auckland, serving great-tasting burgers at festivals and markets. Keep an eye out for it, or monitor their website for updates on where to see them next!

Contact details: 09 666 0027

Operating hours:

Tuesday: 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Wednesday to Sunday: 12:00 PM to Late

Known for its premier dining and shopping establishments, Ponsonby is also home to some of the best burgers in Auckland. One of the fan favourites is Parade, a burger joint serving juicy American-style burgers to its diners.

While their burger menu, which features beef burgers, chicken burgers, and vegetarian ones, may seem simple at first glance, their burgers are actually pretty special! They’re made of soft, housemade pretzel buns that make them stand out against other burgers!

Parade is also known for its delicious loaded fries, served with cheese sauce, caramelized onions, and the joint’s secret sauce. Pair these and their burger with a cold beer or a classic cocktail, and you’re in for a good time!

Pro Tip: They do happy hour from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM daily! Bring your friends and family along and enjoy some good burgers and pretty cheap drinks.

Wise Boys Burger

Contact details: 09 360 0801

Operating hours:

Monday to Thursday: 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Friday to Sunday: 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Well, there are classic meat burgers, then there are plant-based ones. And the vegan burger Wise Boys Burger down Grey Lynn is definitely just as good (sometimes even better) as any other meat burger you’ll find in Auckland!

The joint prides itself on being the ultimate destination for indulgent and guilt-free plant-based burgers. Their menu boasts an array of unique options, like crispy organic tofu, smoky BBQ jackfruit, and black bean patties.

For those looking for a safe option, the Classic Chick’n is a crowd-favourite. Featuring Wise Boys’ original recipe of Vegan Fried Chick’n and their signature garlic aioli, even the most die-hard carnivores will be fooled into thinking they’re eating real chicken!

Pro Tip: Wise Boys’ creamy shakes are your best choices if you’re looking for the perfect partner for your yummy burger! Even the milkshakes are vegan-friendly, as they only use oat milk for them.

Baby G Burger

Location: 1879 Great North Road, Avondale, Auckland 1026, New Zealand

Contact details: [email protected]

Operating hours:

Thursday and Friday: 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Saturday and Sunday: 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM; 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Baby G Burger had people lining up for hours just to get a taste of their burgers, even when it was just a pop-up. And now that it has a permanent location in Avondale, the madness for their smash burgers continues!

The joint’s patties are made through a smashing technique where they firmly press the patties on the grill to create crispier edges and a more flavourful taste. This gives their burgers a unique taste that keeps people coming back despite the limited menu.

Their popular Oklahoma Dreaming burger is still served but with an upgraded recipe. They replaced the dry-aged meat mix they use with a fresher mix to get rid of the gamey flavour their previous customers complained about and create a more consistent taste.

Pro Tip: The joint is pretty small and almost always busy, so we suggest ordering takeaway burgers if you’re not a huge fan of loud and crowded restaurants.

The Chosen Bun

Location: 3/40 Stonefields Ave, Stonefields, Auckland 1072, New Zealand

Contact details: (09) 218 8239, [email protected]

Operating hours:

Wednesday and Thursday: 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM

Friday to Sunday: 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM, 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM

The Chosen Bun in Stonefields doesn’t let anyone’s gluten intolerance hold them back from enjoying a delicious burger meal. Their burgers are made from scratch and can be made with gluten-free buns upon request.

But that’s not all because even their sides and shakes are gluten-free! You can indulge in their fries, popcorn chicken, mozzarella sticks, and all their flavoured shakes without worrying about feeling sick or bloated afterwards!

Vegetarians will also love the joint’s The Righteous One burger, which comes with a portobello mushroom, halloumi, onion rings, red pesto, and aioli. But if you’re a meat lover, then you have far more options to enjoy!

Pro Tip: If you’re on a low-carb diet, you can ask them to turn your burger into a burger bowl to avoid the added carb in the buns!

The Flaming Onion

Location: City View Superette, Shop 6/1 Lydia Avenue, Northcote, Auckland 0627, New Zealand

Contact details: 09 419 0325

Operating hours: Tuesday to Sunday: 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM

The Flaming Onion is not just your average burger joint. They take their burgers seriously with experienced chefs crafting each patty by hand and whipping up sauces from scratch for the best flavours in your meal.

With a menu boasting nearly 30 gourmet burgers, this place is not messing around with its burger game. Their burgers range from beef and chicken burgers to vegetarian and fish ones with some junior variations for your little ones.

If you’re unsure what to choose from their massive menu, try their The Bogan burger! It’s a monstrous burger that features double NZ premium Angus beef, Texan-style pulled pork, chicken tenderloin, smoked bacon, American cheese, and more!

Pro Tip: If you’re far from Northcote, The Flaming Onion also has locations in Remuera and Browns Bay. They have different operating hours, though, so check out the joint’s website first before going!

Friday and Saturday: 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Another great smashed burger joint in Auckland that you have to visit at least once is Fat Puku’s Smashed Burgers on Queen Street. This funky joint is passionate about serving classic American burgers—and they sure are really good at it!

Their Fat Puku burger, served with smashed beef patty, cheddar cheese, iceberg lettuce, pickles, onions, and mayo, is already enough reason to add this joint to the list, but they offer more than that! Even their vegetarian burgers are to die for!

Their drinks also range from soda pops and milkshakes to various spirits. Think beer (beer garden auckland), ciders, whisky, vodka, bourbon, and cocktails all in one place waiting for you to be enjoyed with your burger!

Pro Tip: If you want to try their milkshakes but also want some booze, you can ask them to make your milkshake boozy for only $5!

This list won’t be complete without the ever-so-famous Burger Burger. With five locations in the city, this burger joint is one of the top favourite hangout places for friends and families because of its laid-back atmosphere and crazy good burgers.

The menu features over 10 burgers and a wide range of salad bowls to choose from. Their Kiwi Classic Burger, made of 170-g NZ grass-fed beef patty, bacon, aged cheddar, pickles, lettuce, fried egg, and beetroot, is a must-try you can’t afford to miss!

And if you’re looking for a good drink to pair up with your burgers, Burger Burger offers a range of beers, wines, cocktails, spirits, shakes, sodas, and juice for you to enjoy! Their doughnuts and ice cream (ice cream auckland) also make great meal-enders!

Pro Tip: Service can take quite some time even when there aren’t many customers inside the joint because of the number of Uber Eat orders that they have. It’s best to drop by when you have quite a lot of time to spare.
