The Gentleman’s Guide to Finding the Best Bespoke Suits in Auckland

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Wearing a bespoke suit that contours perfectly to your body transforms your confidence. If you’re getting married or just want to look dapper at the office, a standard, store-bought suit isn’t good enough.

For men in Auckland, such as grooms, business people, or those with special body types, buying a completely custom-made suit changes everything!

To help you find the perfect fit, we have compiled a list of the top tailors specialising in high-quality bespoke suits in Auckland.

How much does bespoke tailoring cost in Auckland?

Custom suit prices in Auckland vary based on material quality and construction hours. You should plan to spend at least NZD $1,000 to $2,000 for a basic custom suit.

However, for hand-made suits using imported wool and featuring a full inner structure (full-canvas), prices usually start around NZD $3,500 and can cost more than $6,000.

If you are planning a wedding, remember that a high-quality (full-canvas) suit for the groom will be a big purchase, but it’s something that can last for a very long time and be passed down.

Professionals requiring a flawless daily rotation of suits should budget for the higher prices to get a suit that is strong and made from luxurious material.

How We Reviewed

To help you find the best bespoke experience, we focused on factors that define quality tailoring and service:

Craftsmanship: We looked into how the suits are made, prioritising tailors who offer traditional bespoke methods like a full-canvas construction, which moulds to your body over time. This detail ensures the suits last a lifetime.
Fabric Selection and Quality: A great tailor offers an extensive range of premium materials from renowned global mills. This allows for total freedom in choosing the drape, weight, and feel of your final garment.
Personal Fitting Experience: A truly bespoke experience involves multiple fittings and personalised advice. We assessed how tailors handle unique body shapes and posture, and their dedication to clear communication throughout the process.
Service Range and Aftercare: Premium service extends beyond the garment itself. This includes good tailoring, suit rental for your groomsmen, and continuous care to keep your purchase looking good for a long time.
Reputation and Client Trust: We considered the tailor’s longevity and reputation for consistency and excellence. Long-standing positive client feedback is the ultimate indicator of a master craftsman.

          Highly experienced and skilled

Vinny is a rare gem. Genuine and passionate. Highly experienced and skilled. Altered 3 blazers and 1 trousers, clear communication and I felt at ease and could trust his expertise right from the get go. His studio has a great vibe. Highly recommended.

His understanding of garment construction, his eye for silhouette, his genuine care and generosity with his time, and the high standard of his work mean he’s the only person I ever take my clothes to. Payne Tailors delivers best-in-class, traditional quality, ensuring precision in every detail, with a focus on truly unique garment construction.

Nasir, the main tailor, has been perfecting his craft since 1969 and is the go-to person for those seeking the best possible quality.

Accurate cuts, elegant fabrics, and precise sewing are hallmarks of the company’s work.

The tailors here are capable of handling specific fitting issues, such as adjusting sleeves for uniquely curved arms. This expert skill is a big reason people rely on them for everything, including wedding suits and work uniforms.

The Payne Tailors team show mastery of the three Cs: cut, cloth, and construction. They also have a wonderful collection of fabrics, sourcing rare materials from around the world.

The only thing to consider is that this kind of high-quality custom work costs a lot, and you must be ready for a long timeline with several try-ons, which is part of the process for true quality.

          • Extensive experience with uniform and costume tailoring

          • Ability to handle complex, unique body alterations

          Cons

          • Longer turnaround time due to meticulous process

          Customer Reviews

Expert craftsmanship and attention to detail. Truly unrivaled to anywhere else in Auckland. I’ve worked with tailors in Vancouver and London and Nasir’s skill is second to none. Nasir not only designed and created my wedding suit, but also multiple pairs of suit trousers, and at least half a dozen alterations to current suits I own, so I can speak to a range of his skills. One example is how the sleeves to my jacket were custom cut to the rather-unique-and-awkward curviness of my arms. His selection and books of cloth available to order from around the world is second to none.

Best in the business. Did an incredible job altering my wedding reception suit to fit perfectly. Thank you Nasir & Team
