I’m usually very happy raiding pet shops for shampoos, paw balms, and other tiny luxuries my furbabies absolutely don’t pay for. But when the fluff gets unruly, even I know it’s time to call in a professional.
Finding the best pet grooming services in Auckland means looking beyond a quick wash and hoping for the best. I want someone who can handle trims, blow-dries, nervous pets, and the occasional furry diva with care.
So I’ve rounded up local groomers worth knowing when bath time at home just won’t cut it. Consider this your shortcut to cleaner coats, tidier paws, and pets who come home looking suspiciously pleased with themselves.
How much does pet grooming cost in Auckland?
A basic wash and dry in Auckland usually costs NZ$45 to NZ$110. A full groom for an extra-small or small dog runs around NZ$70 to NZ$120.
For medium dogs, expect to pay NZ$95 to NZ$160. Large dogs typically cost NZ$110 to NZ$230 for a full groom.
Extra-large or thick-coated dogs can cost NZ$135 to NZ$329. The extra time needed for brushing, drying, and styling can push prices towards the higher end.
Cat grooming tends to start higher. A standard feline wash costs around NZ$100 or more, while a full groom starts at roughly NZ$170.
1. Paw Hub Pet Grooming

Address: 428 Richmond Road
Contact: 09 376 5649 | Text: 020 4109 7966 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday-Saturday, 9 AM – 5:30 PM
I like Paw Hub because it’s genuinely handy for homes with more than one kind of pet. Dogs, cats, and even rabbits can all be groomed here, which saves a lot of running around.
Cat owners may especially appreciate that the team doesn’t use sedation for grooming. You can even pop in for simple nail clipping without making a full appointment.
Their dog services cover everything from baths and tidy-ups to traditional hand stripping for suitable coats. Some bath packages finish with a bow or tie and a spritz of pet cologne, which is a cute little victory lap.
The catch is that hand stripping has to be arranged by email instead of through the regular online booking system.
You’ll also want to choose your dog’s size category carefully, since Paw Hub says incorrectly sized bookings can’t be accepted.
Excellent Pet Grooming and Gentle Care
Excellent Service & Awesome Job!! Highly recommend their pet grooming services.
My little girl had matte/knots on her belly, legs and armpits, which made her noticeably uncomfortable. The folks at Paw Hub made my scaredy-cat feel calm and gave her belly a good shave (see pics), combed through and did a nail cut. All her matte/knots are gone, and she looks comfortable! Paw Hub provided an honest consultation about their services and didn’t upsell; definitely good value for money!
Thanks Guys 🙂

The best place in Auckland city.
You will not be disappointed.

2. Scissorhounds Mission Bay

Address: 301B Kepa Rd, Mission Bay
Contact: 09 869 6188 | 022 198 6552 | [email protected]
Hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 8:30 AM – 6:30 PM | Sunday, 9 AM – 4:30 PM
Scissorhounds appeals to me because consistency matters when someone’s holding scissors near my furbaby’s face.
Their groomers follow shared training standards across company-owned branches, so you’re not completely rolling the dice with each visit.
They’re especially interesting if you’ve got a long-haired cat with main-character energy. Groomer Nico Villaroman has a background in breeding and showing Persian cats, which brings some serious fluff credentials to the table.
I like their stance on matting too, because beauty shouldn’t require suffering. If a coat is badly tangled, they’ll clip it short rather than put a pet through painful dematting.
The catch is that refusing a necessary shave may mean collecting your pet without the groom.
And if someone else does the drop-off, make sure they know the styling brief, because the salon won’t call you to reconfirm it.
Personalised Service Exceeding All Expectations
I recently took my two beloved furry friends to Scissorhounds Dog Grooming, and I couldn’t be happier with the results! As a proud dog owner, I’m quite particular about who handles my pets, and Scissorhounds exceeded my expectations.
The moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by the friendly and professional staff. They took the time to thoroughly understand each of my dogs’ specific grooming needs and preferences, even accommodating their different hair types and desired styles. It was evident that they truly cared about providing a personalised experience for each pet.

Gentle Grooming with Wonderful Results
The groomer was very nice and gentle and spoke with me beforehand to check what sort of groom I’d like, which admittedly I said I’m happy with any length and cut because what’s important was to get rid of some of the underbelly matting.
We are so happy with the result; she looks so cute, but most importantly, she seems so much happier now that her fur isn’t hurting her. She’s mostly quite aloof but she’s been hanging out with us more since the shave.

3. KristAl Pet Grooming

Address: 6 Rawiri Place, Hobsonville
Contact: 02102538286 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday-Saturday, 8 AM – 5 PM (by appointment only)
KristAl won me over with its free tidy-up grooms for puppies up to five months old.
It’s a smart way to introduce little fluffballs to brushes, baths, and dryers before they decide grooming is a personal betrayal.
Their Fear Free-certified groomers are another plus if your dog gets nervous around clippers. They even keep notes on your preferred finish, which makes repeat visits feel less like explaining your haircut from scratch.
I like the hot-oil treatment too, especially for dry or static-prone coats. It’s the sort of extra pampering I’d happily justify as essential.
The catch is that if your dog resists a nail trim, it may be skipped for safety, but the full service price still applies.
Consistently Great Cuts and Kind Treatment
I have been using KristAl Pet Grooming for several years, and the reason I keep going back is that my dog is returned to me not traumatised by the grooming process and he gets a great cut. But the kindness aspect to my pet is key to me

Professional Service with Relaxed Pet Care
I highly recommend KristAl Pet Grooming if you are looking for professional and friendly service. Every time Toby comes home, he looks fantastic and gets a consistently great cut, but what matters most to me is how calm and relaxed he is afterwards

4. Studio Hound

Address: 471 Manukau Road, Epsom
Contact: 022-029-5329 | [email protected]
Hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 8:30 AM – 6:30 PM | Sunday, 9 AM – 2 PM
Studio Hound caught my eye because they won’t simply shave a natural double coat for convenience.
Huskies, Goldens, and other fluff-heavy breeds get de-shedding instead, which feels like a more thoughtful approach.
Their groomers include experienced international stylists who go through company training, and each dog gets its own roomy pen. The standard groom is pretty thorough too, with multiple shampoo and conditioning stages before drying and fluffing.
If I were feeling extra indulgent, I’d be tempted by their optional mānuka honey treatment.
There’s even a 48-hour window for minor grooming adjustments if something needs tweaking afterwards.
The main drawback is that owners can’t stay inside and watch the session. You’ll need to leave the premises and wait for the pickup call.
Easy Booking and Fantastic Grooming Results
Easy to book online. Plenty of parking out back. Friendly and welcoming. Sends a text to say when your dog will be ready so you pick up on time. Reasonable price for full groom. My dog looks and smells so good whenever I pick him up!

5. Petcare Kiwi Shop & Grooming

Address: 12/16 Gooch Place, Somerville
Contact: 09 5799981 | [email protected]
Hours: Tuesday-Sunday, 9 AM – 5 PM
Petcare Kiwi appeals to me because I’m the sort who likes to peek at my furbaby mid-groom. The clear glass viewing area lets you watch from outside without hovering over the groomer’s shoulder.
They use premium Chris Christensen products, including hypoallergenic formulas, which is a nice touch for sensitive coats.
There’s even a microbubble spa for a deeper clean when an ordinary bath feels a bit too basic.
Their colour-restoration treatments are another fun extra, especially for white, black, or dull-looking coats. Best of all, the formulas are designed to brighten without relying on bleach.
The catch is that the salon is closed on Mondays, so weekday flexibility is a little tighter.
Very anxious or bite-prone pets may also incur extra charges or be declined if grooming becomes unsafe.
Exceptional Service and Top-Notch Pet Care
I am absolutely blown away by the exceptional service and care provided by Petcare Kiwi Shop & Grooming!
From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm smile and a welcoming atmosphere. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely passionate about animals.
The grooming services are top-notch! My fur baby has never looked or felt better. The attention to detail and care taken to ensure their comfort and safety is impressive.
