We’ve heard our fair share of bad experiences from damp and moldy units. Others are infested with pests, and some are so poorly lit you couldn’t even see what you’re storing.
Needless to say, self-storage is more than just a place to stash your stuff. You need a facility that’s clean, secure, and accessible.
That’s why I teamed up with the rest of the Auckland Magazine crew. We compiled a list of the best self-storage facilities in the city that you can rely on.

While some customers mentioned slower response times via email and phone, we couldn’t help but still add Storage4you to this list because of their impressive on-site storage solutions.
We really loved their online storage calculator. It made choosing the right unit size easy and ensured we wouldn’t overpay for the space we wouldn’t need.
Plus, their flexible options for short- and long-term storage add extra convenience.
The security at Storage4you also really stood out to us. With cameras, individual unit alarms, and state-of-the-art materials, we’re sure all belongings are in safe hands.
Aside from that, the 24/7 access with personalized gate codes was a huge plus. It gave us peace of mind knowing we could grab what we needed anytime.
And the little extras really set them apart. With packing supplies, truck rentals, and on-site recycling bins, they’ve covered all the bases to make the process easy and stress-free.

The wide, paved driveways and super convenient driveway units make getting in and out with a vehicle a total breeze—and we like that the most.
Their range of unit sizes is another win. They have a small 1.5 meters to spacious 10 meters that’s great for personal items or business inventory.
And the little extras? Trolleys, packing supplies, and competitive insurance rates—they’ve thought of everything to make the process easy.
The only hiccup is their limited access hours. This might be a hassle if you need your things outside regular times.

Space Station Storage caters to a wide range of needs. With unit sizes from 4.5 to 34 meters, it’s perfect whether you’re storing a few seasonal items or a whole business inventory.
We love how impressive their security is. We think many would feel totally at ease leaving their stuff here because of their 24-hour surveillance, access control, and on-site staff around the clock.
And if you’re into wine, their climate-controlled underground cellar units are amazing. Up to 300 bottles with custom shelving? Yes, please!
They didn’t forget about vehicles either. Their secure, climate-controlled spaces for cars, boats, and trailers are such a nice feature—no worrying about damage from environmental damage.
The only downside is the parking. It can be challenging to look for one, especially if you’re unloading a lot.

Kennards really nails it when it comes to flexibility and convenience, and that’s something we truly appreciate about them.
Their no-access charge policy means you can visit your unit whenever you need without any extra fees—super handy! Plus, their refund policy for unused rental periods is a nice perk in ensuring you only pay for the time you use.
Kennards’ storage options suit every need, including compact 0.5-meter lockers and spacious 9-meter double-car garages. They even have wine cellar units for collectors—a unique and thoughtful feature.
We’re also pleased with their easy-to-use online account system. It makes managing your unit and paying bills from home a breeze. Plus, the auto-pay feature is a lifesaver for avoiding late payments.
Their security is another major pro. Daily lock checks and on-site managers mean your stuff is in good hands.
But it’s not all perfect. Kennards require insurance, which can bump up the cost and might not work for every budget.

The spacious and well-kept units really made an impression during our visit. Customers also appreciated the convenient access hours.
The free trailer hire was a highlight for us, too. It made moving simpler and saved us the hassle of renting a truck. Combined with the on-site trolleys for heavy items, the whole process felt stress-free.
We also felt completely at ease with their security—it’s top-notch. With 24-hour CCTV, regular patrols, and a monitored alarm system, it’s clear their customers’ belongings are in safe hands.
However, one downside is the parking situation, especially during mid-afternoon hours. This can be a hassle if you’re trying to load or unload large items.
