The problem is we didn’t know who to reach out to.
So, I called in my Auckland Magazine team to back me up. After asking around and digging, we managed to find the top carpenters in Auckland.
If you’re in the same situation, these are carpenters who have earned a solid reputation with their craftsmanship and professionalism.
How much do carpenters charge in Auckland?
Carpenters may charge from $30 to $60 per hour, depending on the project. Some carpenters include their tools, insurance, and materials in their hourly rates, while some don’t. Other fees to consider also include the vehicle charge.

Homestar Builds NZ Limited is a family-owned business composed of experienced carpenters. We felt assured that they only hire carpenters with over 4 years of experience in the construction industry.
For their offerings, they have house renovation, fencing, and carpentry. They’ve worked for clients needing help with minor fixes, small home projects, and installing a new merbau deck.
Clients mentioned that the team has great communication and that their workers are nice to talk to. This is what we want for workers – not someone who’s intimidating, that makes you feel uncomfortable.
Another thing we like about this company is that they’re insured. That gives us peace of mind knowing that any unexpected damage on-site are covered. For us, it also reflects their level of responsibility and professionalism.
There are things we noticed, though. They only have a small team of carpenters, which could potentially affect their availability. Also, this could impact how fast they can finish a project.
Aside from that, their portfolio isn’t that strong for us. It would be great to see before and after photos to really see how well they did. Things like this can go a long way in building trust and attracting clients.

Jim’s Handyman is a huge company offering property maintenance and building services. They also handle both commercial and residential works. So, if you’ve got projects for your home and business, you can just conveniently contact one company.
The first thing that stood out to us was their comprehensive list of services. From bathroom renovations to plastering, they have it all. Not all construction companies or carpenters offer such broad services since it can be hard to manage.
Also, they have a solid and strong workforce. They call their members and workers Jims (good and clever branding). Many clients keep mentioning their worker, Edmundo, for his skills and great attention to detail.
Some of their previous and successful projects are reconstructing big shelving units, kitchen repairs, and restaurant renovation. Although it’s a huge company, they’re still happy to solve minor tasks like fixing broken windows and installing door locks.
For us, that’s the real level of commitment. They don’t just exist to make a profit, but most importantly, to be of help when someone needs their skilled hands.
It’s also worth mentioning that they service the wider New Zealand. From North Auckland to Hamilton, they’ve got you covered.
Since they’re a well-established and reputable company, expect that their fees are on the higher side.

BRP Construction Limited is a well-experienced company with services spanning from building, renovating, and property maintenance, to name a few.
They’ve got a wide range of services, but we noticed that they only have like four members. Two carpenters, one builder and director, and an admin who takes on appointments.
Although we’re happy with their service offerings, we feel like they can’t accept many projects since they have a limited workforce. This is also not ideal for those who have rush projects.
But despite that, they’ve got big and successful projects. This includes a burger shop renovation, residential fencing, and tiling works. Their clients also commend them for good customer service and timely job completion.
A client also thanked the team for transforming their Wellness Room. They specifically mentioned carpenter, Soahel, for being incredibly responsive and always ready to answer all their questions.
Clients also said that they have affordable pricing. However, we think that it still depends on the scope of work, so it’s better to request them for a quotation.

Oncore is a property maintenance and repairs company offering nationwide services. Their services are available to Manukau, Eastern Bays, and the Auckland areas. This makes them a reliable company to call wherever you are.
At first, we are curious how they were able to serve nationwide. Then, we learned that Oncore has franchisees, and for their Glendowie location, Amanda and Blair Campbell are the owners.
It’s great that they have different franchisees so they can serve a wider clients. But we also have to anticipate that service quality may vary from one branch to another. Different carpenters and ownership.
Despite that, we’re happy with their services. They have healthy home assessments and handyman services. Clients praise the owners, Amanda, for completing their healthy homes report for their rental property.
Another client also commended Blair for the quick response when they had a burst pipe in their ceiling. Clients said that the tradesmen they have are complete with builders, plumbers, and electricians.
We also think that they should have a portfolio per location so clients can see their successful projects.

“Blair and the team have been fantastic. We had our roof cleaned / treated, gutters all cleaned and house washed.
