Hours: Tue – Sat, 5 PM – 9:30 PM
Must-Try: BBQ Beef Carpaccio
Parro brings a sophisticated, Mediterranean-influenced flair to Dominion Road. Its secret weapon is the charcoal grill, which forms the heart of its menu.
You can taste that smoky, authentic flavour in everything. The focus here is on local, seasonal ingredients, all handled with a refined, contemporary twist.
It’s a real neighbourhood gem, feeling relaxed enough for a casual dinner but special enough for a date night.
I tried the BBQ beef carpaccio on my last visit, and it was incredible. It was light but had this awesome smoky taste, and the sauce on it was just right.
The menu isn’t huge, which might be a downside if you want endless options, but it feels curated.
It’s all about smaller sharing plates, handmade flatbreads, and beautiful raw fish dishes.
Customer Reviews:
Absolutely delicious food with incredible flavours, and the Chef and his team were so welcoming and friendly. The charcoal BBQ steak was a real standout, and the BBQ eggplant and tiramisu were also exceptional. We can’t wait to go back!

Had a delicious dinner at Parro. The dishes were so well thought out and a pleasure to eat. Very talented chefs! Our favourite dish was the lamb – it just melted. And of course we had to finish off with the tiramisu which was perfect. We will be back!

Must-Try: Coal-Grilled Duck
Cazador is an Auckland icon, family-owned since 1987. The kitchen specialises in wild, sustainably sourced game and free-range meats, prepared with the care of a long family tradition.
This is not your standard steakhouse. It’s a place for the adventurous. They make all their own charcuterie and cured meats, which is a craft you can taste.
The vibe is like a cozy hunting lodge, which was warm and full of character.
We opted for the “Feast” tasting menu, which was a fantastic journey. The coal-grilled duck was a highlight, perfectly cooked and full of flavour.
They also have an amazing sherry list that pairs beautifully. Because it’s so intimate and popular, you absolutely need to book ahead, so don’t plan on just walking in.

3. OOH-FA

Website: https://oohfa.co.nz/
Address: 357 Dominion Road, Mount Eden, Auckland 1024
Contact: [email protected]
Schedule: Tue – Sun, 5 PM – 10 PM
Must-Try: Oyster Mushroom Pizza
OOH-FA is all about one thing: pizza done perfectly. From the team behind the famous pasta spot Pici, this place has serious credibility.
The magic is in their 70-hour fermented sourdough base, which is cooked in a wood-fired oven. The result is a crust that’s chewy and perfectly charred.
The spot itself is tiny and intimate with only 22 seats, making it feel like a neighbourhood secret.
A friend of mine finally got a booking and won’t stop talking about the oyster mushroom pizza. So, I decided to try it for myself, and I was not disappointed at all.
Their toppings are elevated, like nduja with ricotta and honey, and they have a killer list of natural wines.
The only catch? It’s one of the hottest tickets in town, so getting a table is a mission.
Customer Reviews:
I’ve had a lot of pizza in my life, and I can tell you this is one of the best I’ve ever had. 10/10. They also have a great wine selection. It’s a lovely place, beautifully decorated with nice colors. You can sit outside or inside. A top spot!

I booked their private dining room for my family to celebrate my daughter’s 21st birthday. We had the most wonderful evening. The pizzas were out of this world – the best pizza I’ve ever had, on par with traditional pizza restaurants in Italy. So were the starters and deserts. It’s casual dining at its very best.

Must-Try: Cordero
Tasca is the go-to for a fun Spanish tapas night. It’s inspired by the back-street bars of Spain, and it nails that vibe.
The atmosphere is easygoing and social, with lively music and dishes made to share.
The menu is also huge and made for group sharing, with heaps of tapas, paella, and larger mains. What’s great is that they cater to everyone, with solid vegetarian and “no gluten added” menus.
I personally think that the Cordero (slow-roasted lamb) is the star of the show. It was super tender from being slow-roasted, and it was just packed with this really rich, savoury flavour.
It’s a popular spot and can get quite loud and crowded during peak times, but that just adds to the buzzing, fiesta-like atmosphere.
Customer Reviews:
Fantastic spot for tapas lovers. They offer wide variety of delicious small plates, inspired by Spanish cuisine. I enjoyed the calamares, patatas bravas, and churros. The ambiance is cozy, perfect for casual dining or special occasions.

Contact: 0210 901 3352 / [email protected]

Must-Try: Caper-Glazed Purple Kūmara
Forest is a game-changer for plant-based dining. This intimate spot offers an entirely vegetarian (and vegan-friendly) fine-dining experience that will impress even the most dedicated omnivore.
They focus on local, seasonal ingredients and creatively minimise waste.
The dishes are inventive and beautifully presented. Expect playful creations like purple kūmara with Marmite cream or seaweed-dusted fries, which are clever, flavour-packed twists on plant-based dining.
The caper-glazed purple kūmara, in particular, gets rave reviews for its depth of flavour.
The restaurant is independently owned, and you can feel the passion in the service and the chic, personal decor.
It’s a small space, so booking is essential, but it’s an absolute must-try for a special, adventurous meal.
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful cozy restaurant, friendly staff who explained us about the dishes, and the food was absolutely fantastic. We had the grilled eggplant, the beer-glazed purple kumara, sourdough rolls with wine butter and pine nut garlic dip with asparagus and endives.

Beautifully crafted menu from top to bottom! The Earl Grey Whiskey Sour was an absolute treat as well! Waitress did an excellent job explaining the menu and helping with gluten and dairy free options, whilst also staying on top of service. Quaint and cute atmosphere, really fun little spot!
