As someone who’s spent more time on heating pads and with ice packs than I care to admit, I can tell you that dealing with chronic back pain is no laughing matter—except for that one time it definitely was.
Don’t ask me why I thought it was a good idea to move my couch around myself. I shoved the sofa with the grace of a bulldozer and felt that infamous spike of pain. My dog, sensing my vulnerability, saw it as the perfect opportunity to turn my belly into his personal trampoline.
Needless to say, I realised that a good physiotherapist is not just a luxury but a necessity. That led to this article, for which I spoke to different physiotherapists and their patients to see which pros in Auckland were best.
Whether you’re dealing with back pain, sports injuries, or just the wear and tear of everyday life, these are the physiotherapists in Auckland worth seeing.
How much does it cost to see a physiotherapist in Auckland? Expect to spend a copay of at least $10 to see a basic physiotherapist. Note that the price of the copay increases depending on the experience of the physiotherapist. |
How I Chose
1. Institute of Sport Physiotherapy
Address: 128 Khyber Pass Road, Grafton, Auckland 1023, New Zealand
Contact Details: +6493795767
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Friday – 5:30 AM to 8 PM
- Saturday – 7 AM to 12 PM
Website: Institute of Sport Physiotherapy
The Institute of Sport Physiotherapy is known for its expertise in sports-related injuries and rehabilitation. All the physiotherapists I spoke to were great listeners and gave me a bunch of helpful tips on body wellbeing.
And they have everything here—specialist sports rehab, manual therapy, shockwave therapy, acupuncture, and even dry needling.
One client I spoke to, a rugby player, said the personalised treatment plan created for him through their specialist sports rehab significantly improved his mobility and pain levels.
Others loved how their manual therapy sessions addressed the intricate issues and pain that had been bothering them for months. A few patients had effective results from acupuncture, while some were a little sceptical about their dry needling.
However, the common downside among most was the wait time for appointments. Nonetheless, the level of care and the visible positive outcomes might make the inconvenience bearable.
Pros
- Expertise in sports injuries and rehabilitation
- Attentive and knowledgeable physiotherapists
- Wide range of treatment options
- Personalized treatment plans
- Effective pain relief and improved mobility
Cons
- Long wait times for appointments

Many of their new clients told me they loved how the physiotherapists here really listen to their concerns and set actionable, realistic goals.
In my own experience, the highlight for me was their pain management technique. I myself felt significant relief within a few sessions.

I also noted that the appointment slots fill up quickly, making it tough to schedule at convenient times.
Pros
- Pain management techniques effective
- Therapists listen and set realistic goals
Cons
- Lack of exercise explanation
