Sleep like a Baby with the Best Mattresses in Auckland from These 7 Stores

mattresses-in-auckland
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.
  • Quality of Products: We chose stores that offer durable mattresses made with good materials and construction.
  • Product Range: We looked for places with lots of options in different sizes, types, and brands.
  • Customer Service: We evaluated how helpful, knowledgeable, and responsive the staff were, both in-store and online. For in-store service, we also asked some customers to assess their experiences.
  • Pricing: We considered whether the prices were fair for what you get.

You can dim the lights, cool the room, and even pop a melatonin. But if your mattress isn’t cutting it, that perfect night’s sleep just isn’t gonna happen.

I learned this the hard way. Everything was in place, but I kept tossing and turning all night. I realized my mattress was rock solid. To be fair, it came with the place when I moved in… and who knows how old it actually is.

So I called in my friends and we went on a mattress hunt across Auckland. We checked out all kinds of shops, tested beds, and learned way more about mattresses than we ever expected.

If you’re also on the hunt for your next mattress, stick around. You might pick up a few tips from our little journey.

How much do mattresses cost in Auckland?

Mattresses in Auckland range from NZ$200 for basic models to over NZ$1,300 for premium options. Luxury mattresses can cost NZ$3,000 or more, depending on brand and features.

Innature didn’t strike me as a mattress company at first. It seemed vaguely related to sustainable products, but I didn’t know which one specifically.

When I opened the website, that’s when I found my best mattress yet! Aside from providing comfort, Innature offers the peace of mind knowing you’re helping save the environment.

Innature mattresses uses natural materials like 100% organic natural latex from the coconut palm and locally-sourced organic wool.

Not only do these absorb more moisture and resist more physical stress, but they retard fire naturally, too. What’s more, I also loved their wide range of mattresses and pillows available, especially those for kids!

You may visit their showroom or order online, but it’s best to do so immediately, since they’re only available via appointment on Sundays.

Pros

  • Wide range of quality and sustainable options
  • 100% organic mattresses
  • Good value
  • Online ordering available

Cons

  • Sundays by appointment only

Thank you for a great piece of furniture

“Very happy with my king single OMNI made from american ash. The wood work is exceptional. There was a small issue with assembling the furniture when it was first delivered, but they resolved it. I was very happy with how they handled it, they were honest and friendly. Thank you for a great piece of furniture, which will undoubtedly last a long time 😊”

Would definitely recommend

“Bought this for our daughter who recently moved to NZ from Australia. When I asked her how the floor bed was she said “ Great! Was comfy and looks nice having the mattress slightly up off the ground”. From my end there were no issues buying it from Australia. When I emailed to check on delivery they were really responsive. Would definitely recommend.”

It’s really impressive that every mattress in Futonz Bed Workshop is built in-house. They work with stuff like organic latex, pure wool, and cotton.

If you’re trying to ditch synthetic foam or avoid chemicals, they’re a good choice. A few of us on the team have allergies or sensitive skin, so the idea of sleeping on materials without harsh chemicals definitely got our attention.

They’re also very flexible. You can customize your mattress size, firmness, and thickness.

We heard from people who ordered unique sizes for caravans or baby bassinets that everything fit perfectly. Big box stores usually give you three mattress types, but with Futonz, they actually listen to what you want and build around that.

A few people we spoke to also praised their service, saying their team was super helpful during the selection process. They even followed up after delivery to make sure everything’s right.

That said, since they make everything to order, you might have to wait a little longer to get your mattress.

Pros

  • Handmade in-house
  • Quality control
  • Uses natural, chemical-free materials
  • Fully customizable
  • Great service with follow-up support
  • Fair pricing for handcrafted products

Cons

  • Longer wait times

Highly recommended experience

“After 2 trains, a bus and a 20-minute walk, we finally arrived at this shop at the edge of the city. It was worth every step. The salesperson was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly & the beds were well displayed and comfortable. They helped us decide on the perfect futon for us, and also custom-made pillows to match. After purchasing for delivery in 2 weeks, they were even so kind as to give us a lift back to the train station. Highly recommended experience. Once you buy a “Futonz” futon you’ll never be swayed to buy a “fancy” mattress from TV again. We love our futon!”

Competitively priced, love the quality

“Stunning service, Whitney was knowledgeable and gave us the freedom to rearrange and try various bed combos. Drove 4 hours return to deal with this company, well worth it. Left with a flexible slat base, a latex mattress and 2 pillows. Competitively priced, love the quality. Highly recommended.”

Business hours:

  • Monday to Saturday: 9:30 AM – 5 PM
  • Sunday: 10 AM – 5 PM

We really like that at Bedpost St Lukes, you can actually lie down and test out the mattresses. You’re encouraged to take your time and flop around a bit.

It’s something that we appreciate. The store genuinely wants you to get it right, not just hurry up and buy something.

They’ve got a huge selection, too. When we visited their store, we caught some big names like Tempur, Beautyrest, and even local brands like Dreamwool and Design Mobel.

We also loved that they weren’t just pushing the pricey ones. They asked about how you sleep, whether you run hot, and if you share the bed with someone, and then gave suggestions that made sense.

They also don’t stop at mattresses. They’ll help you sort out a base or bed frame, too.

That said, we just noticed that it took a while before anyone came over to chat. Once they did, they were lovely. But if you like to be greeted the second you walk in, just be aware it might not happen right away.

Pros

  • Try-before-you-buy
  • Relaxed environment
  • Great variety of brands
  • Helpful and tailored advice
  • Full sleep solutions

Cons

  • Slow initial customer service

So glad that we stopped in at Bedpost St. Lukes for our new mattress

“My husband and I recently decided to invest in a nice mattress after a year of sleeping on a sub-par one, and Luke at the Bedpost St. Lukes was FANTASTIC! Very helpful as we were narrowing down our preferred choice, never made us feel pressured as we went back and forth between options, and offered us some extra deals as well. Luke is a huge credit to your business! He was also the one delivering our mattress, so it made us feel really comfortable with our purchase. The mattress was delivered a few days ahead of schedule, too! Overall, fantastic experience from start to finish and we’re so glad that we stopped in at Bedpost St. Lukes for our new mattress. Will be recommending this store (and Luke!) for our friends and family!”

5. Beds4U Henderson

Phone: +64 22 034 4401
Business hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Saturday to Sunday: 10 AM – 5 PM

Website

Beds4U Henderson has a solid range of mattresses with firmness levels.

Side sleepers can find something plush enough to sink into without wrecking their shoulders, and back or stomach sleepers can get the kind of support that keeps their spine happy.

One mattress we looked at (the Zzz Time Medium) has a five-zone pocket spring setup. This gives more support where you’re heavier and more give when you’re lighter.

We also noticed the top layers on a lot of their mattresses are made with breathable fabric, like Aloe Vera knit. It actually feels nice and supposedly helps with skin sensitivity.

Their staff also doesn’t use a hard-sell tactic, which we appreciated. Instead, they ask questions about how you sleep and make recommendations based on that.

However, we noticed that they seem to always have some sort of sale running. It sounds great at first, yes, but several people pointed out that the “half price” offers might be more of a marketing strategy than a genuine markdown.

We’d suggest taking these with a grain of salt and comparing prices with other stores to be sure you’re actually getting value.

Pros

  • Good variety of firmness levels
  • Supportive design
  • Breathable materials
  • Helpful and low-pressure staff

Cons

  • Constant sales can be misleading

We felt comfortable making a purchase straight away

“We were just browsing around for our new mattress and stumbled onto this place in Henderson. Jay was really helpful and knowledgeable, explainingthe differences in each mattress, and we felt comfortable making a purchase straight away. Recommend to check this place out if you’re looking for your mattress!”

-Ingyin, Google review

This place has really good customer service

“Highly recommended! This place has really good customer service. The salesperson Smit, was very helpful. Bought a double-size mattress with a frame. The bed frame couldn’t be delivered to my room as it was too big. Called Smit and he was able to oragnise a replacement straightaway!”

6. Sleepcenter Beds

sleepcenter-beds

Address: 255 Great South Road, Greenlane

Phone: +64 9 610 5973
Business hours:

  • Monday to Sunday: 10 AM – 5 PM

Website

Sleepcenter Beds has a really smart setup. Mattresses are grouped by sleeping position. It might sound strange, but it can actually help you narrow down your options quickly.

Back sleepers are directed to medium-firm eurotop mattresses, while side sleepers are encouraged to try the softer Cool Gel Memory Foam range.

Each mattress has a firm rating (on a 1–10 scale), which gives you a clearer sense of what to expect when lying down.

We also liked that they show you the inside of the mattresses. You can see the layers—foam, spring, all of it. For us, this builds trust. You actually understand what you’re buying, not just what it looks or feels like.

For the quality of their materials, we think their pricing is also reasonable. They’re undercutting the big-name brands without compromising too much on features.

Even their contour pillows were half the price of what you’d pay at some other stores.

That said, someone mentioned to us that a staff member felt dismissive. He was shopping for three beds, but didn’t get much help or courtesy. It might’ve been an isolated case, but it’s still worth noting.

Pros

  • Smart layout
  • Firmness scale
  • Transparency on what’s inside the mattress
  • Good value
  • Affordable extras

Cons

  • A report about a dismissive staff member

Competitively priced and a good range of mattresses

“Competitively priced and a good range of mattresses. Mattresses come boxed and deflated, so they are easy to transport even in a normal-sized vehicle. I recently purchased a contour memory pillow for half the price of similar products at Briscoes.”

-Julia Dutt, Google review

Excellent qualities of the mattress

“Excellent qualities of the mattress. I got one queen and one super king-size mattress. Love the quality. Great price. Also provide home delivery. Superb service. Highly recommend. All kings of beds available.”

7. Budget Beds

  • Monday to Friday: 10 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Saturday: 10 AM – 5 PM
  • Sunday: 10 AM – 4:30 PM

There’s really a ton of choice in Budget Beds. When we visited their showroom, there was a good variety. They have options for different sleep needs.

One mattress that stood out was made with zones to support your shoulders, back, and hips properly. It felt firm where it should and cushy where it counts.

We also saw a mattress with a breathable cover made with TENCEL. This is great if you get hot or sweaty while sleeping. It’s cooler and more comfortable.

We’d say this store is a good choice if you already know how you sleep. The range can be a bit overwhelming if you’re not sure what you need, so it helps to go in with an idea.

Pricing is also fair for what you get.  Many of the features are usually found in more expensive brands. Since they import directly and also manufacture locally, they’re able to keep costs down.

That said, we’ve heard a couple of complaints about customer service.

A customer said the salesperson they’ve interacted with was rude and unwelcoming. That matters because there are so many options. You’d want someone you can ask comfortably and who can explain things clearly.

Pros

  • Wide range of options
  • Offers mattresses with special features
  • Good value
  • Local manufacturing and direct importing
  • Great if you know what you’re looking for

Cons

  • Too many choices can be overwhelming
  • A few reports about rude staff

Excellent service from Budget Beds

“Excellent service from Budget Beds Onehunga, I was desperately needing a mattress and I bought it because the seller gave me his word I was gonna get the mattress delivered the next day, and I got it. Good prices and nice and helpful staff”

Without a doubt best shop to buy beds in Auckland

“Went again to buy our 2nd bed from this store. Without a doubt best shop to buy beds in Auckland. Bought a super king bed last year with memory foam. Very comfortable bed.”
