That experience made me realise how important it is to have a trustworthy locksmith for those accidental lockouts.
So, I got help from the rest of the Auckland Magazine writing team in finding the best locksmiths in Auckland. After much research and many interviews, we finally came up with a list of the locksmiths worth keeping on speed dial.

Their hardware warranties are just as impressive. Most products are covered for at least a year, and some even come with a jaw-dropping 25-year warranty.
It’s not just about car keys, either. Business owners told us LockSmart took a lot of stress out of managing security systems, building inspections, and making sure emergency escape plans were up to code.
Homeowners also appreciated that they weren’t pressured into unnecessary upgrades—LockSmart offered free security assessments and took the time to walk them through how to use their new locks.
The only real downside we heard? A few customers mentioned being misquoted, which can be frustrating.

Customers consistently praise how dependable and ready to help the team is—no matter the time of day or night. We even called them at 3 AM and it wasn’t long for us—about 15 minutes—to get an operator on the other line.
What we especially like is they go well beyond just emergency lockouts, especially for businesses. They handle everything from commercial locks and master key systems to digital code locks and safe installations.
Companies also appreciate their practical, straightforward security advice. There’s no pressure or upselling, just honest recommendations that help you make the right call for your business or home.
If there’s one area for improvement, it’s their response times on Saturdays for normal locksmith appointments (like installing new locks). Several customers mentioned waiting up to two hours for help on the weekend.
To be fair, the technicians are often busy with emergency services. However, it’s still a longer-than-expected wait.

What we like most is how seamless they make the whole setup. Whether it’s your home or a rental, the process of connecting your locks to other smart devices is not confusing. That’s something a lot of the customers we talked to appreciated too.
Of course, City Locksmiths isn’t just about smart tech. We appreciate that they also supply and install new locks, do expert repairs, and give free on-site assessments and quotes.
Their expertise covers everything from master key systems to car keys, and they’re known for thorough follow-up after installation.
The only real downside? While they advertise emergency help, it’s not quite 24/7. Some customers mentioned having to wait until a technician was available.

Like Essential Locksmiths, Aback Locksmiths stays true to 24/7 availability. Customers we talked to shared calling late at night and still getting friendly, no-fuss service—with someone usually on-site within 30 minutes.
We love that Aback Locksmiths covers all the essentials. They do it all—unlocking cars and homes, repairing or replacing locks, and even making replacement car keys.
We also especially appreciate their clear communication and upfront pricing. Before any work begins, the technician walks you through the costs and options, so there are no surprise charges on the final bill.
The one thing we don’t like, though, is that their range of lock types and brands is a bit limited compared to bigger or more specialised locksmiths we’ve checked out.
If you’re after high-security, designer, or smart lock options, you might find their selection a little basic.

They offer expert locksmith guidance at their on-site office on Royal Road. We popped into their physical store ourselves to check out their key cutting and do some hardware browsing.
If you rather stay at home, though, you can call their mobile locksmiths to come to you for on-the-spot assistance.
Their 7-day emergency service is also a plus. Whether you’re locked out or need urgent repairs, help is always close by.
However, several customers mentioned that booking a regular installation appointment can be a bit of a hassle. Wait times can be over a week.
Still, outside of emergencies, the technicians at Western Lock Services’ are capable and detail-oriented. They handle everything from servicing and repairing locks to fitting window catches, restrictor stays, and hinges.
We also appreciate their expertise with electronic lock installation—from basic PIN code locks to advanced app-managed or remotely controlled systems. If you’re considering going keyless, the team is known for making the transition surprisingly stress-free.
