The 5 Best Muay Thai Gyms in Auckland for Fighters of All Levels

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Authentic Coaching: I looked for instructors with real ring experience and solid teaching backgrounds.

Class Flexibility: I prioritized spots offering multiple class times and straightforward drop-in options.

Community Atmosphere: I selected facilities that actively foster an ego-free space and welcome total beginners.

Pricing Transparency: I checked for gyms that outline their joining fees and cancellation policies clearly.

Finding the best Muay Thai gyms in Auckland can completely transform your fitness routine.

Hitting the heavy bags builds serious stamina, relieves stress, and teaches practical self-defense. It’s also a solid change of pace if you’re used to something like aerial fitness and want a different kind of physical challenge.

What makes Muay Thai stand out is how quickly you see progress. Plus, most gyms build a genuine sense of community around the training, so you’re never grinding through it alone.

If you’re interested in getting started, I tracked down the top spots in the city offering authentic training, welcoming communities, and solid coaching.

How much does Muay Thai cost in Auckland?

  • Over 40 classes weekly
  • Separate hot showers
  • Generous hold policy

Cons

  • Hefty cancellation penalty
  • Upfront $50 joining fee

Welcoming Environment with Great Workout Energy

The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly, so even if you’re completely new to Muay Thai, you never feel intimidated or out of place. At the same time, there’s plenty of opportunity to challenge yourself and progress if you’re more experienced.

The gym is clean and the classes are varied and energetic. It’s honestly one of the best workouts I’ve ever done😆 you leave feeling exhausted but amazing!

Highly recommend Jai Thai to anyone looking to get fit, improve their confidence, or simply be part of a great community. 👊🔥

Awesome Supportive Community for Beginners

I just wanna say as someone with no experience in Muay Thai, joining Jai is legit one of the best decisions I ever made. I can best describe it as a gym that’s supportive, fun atmosphere but also very serious about Muay Thai.. The whole team who run Jai are amazing, Sulin, Tee, Phet, Josh, Hannah, Mike and many other trainers there I haven’t learned their names yet are seriously such awesome people. They teach according to your level and will give you proper critique to improve. My siblings and I love training.

Learning authentic technique matters, and you get exactly that from Wimbledon Muay Thai’s head coach with over 200 professional fights under his belt.

I booked their complimentary trial class myself to test the waters with zero financial pressure. I loved that training was split into clear tiers to match my current fitness and skill stage.

So, absolute beginners focus on fundamentals while advanced students practice technical sparring safely.

The gym also runs youth programs for kids aged nine and up.

You can also join their Sunday open sparring session even as a non-member.

Just remember you’ll need your own gloves and handwraps for every class, since they don’t keep rental gear on hand.

  • Free trial class
  • Multilingual coaching staff

Super Supportive Trainers and Great Family Vibe

These guys are the BEST. Wimbledon and all of the trainers are super supportive, friendly and always encouraging. And of course, they know their Muay Thai kickboxing. Whether you are a beginner, advanced or fighter, everyone is friendly and it’s got a real family vibe. No surprise that there are a lot of families sharing their passion – kids, mums and dads. Follow them on Instagram or Facebook to see videos in action. It’s my favourite work out.

Fun Environment to Build Confidence and Fitness

Wimbledon Muay Thai Gym is my most favorite place. All the trainers are totally amazingly friendly and knowledgeable in Muaythai skills and traditions they also push you to do your best and most of all the environments so fun and exciting and really gets you feeling good about yourself.

Im usually very shy and wouldn’t do much reviews but this place has really been a special place for me to better myself and health for not only me but my  family also been here for three months and all I can say is I got a new addiction 😁

At Elite Thai Kickboxing, you never have to deal with rigid session reservations or booking apps, so flexibility is a real perk here. You just turn up ready to train whenever a class fits your day.

I dropped in for a session last month and was surprised by how smoothly beginners trained alongside active fighters.

The gym keeps a genuinely ego-free atmosphere. The coaching staff, led by a six-time world kickboxing champion, brings serious pedigree to the mats.

They also run women-only sessions and offer on-site contrast therapy for recovery.

Also, if you want to move your child from kids gymnastics into a disciplined martial art, their youth pathway is excellent. Just know kids’ classes need advance booking, have capped spots, and require the official uniform shirt.

  • No-booking adult classes
  • World champion coaches
  • Ego-free inclusive space

5. 789 Muay Thai

789-muay-thai

Website: 789muaythaiclub.com

Address: 4A/157 Stoddard Road, Mt Roskill 1041

Contact: +64 27 598 4819 | [email protected]

Hours: Mon–Fri 6:00 AM–8:30 PM · Sat 7:00 AM–2:00 PM

Finding traditional instruction is easy at 789 Muay Thai, since the head coach brings high-level experience straight from Thailand. You’ll learn ring-tested strategies and authentic pad work instead of watered-down cardio kickboxing.

The gym keeps a tight-knit family culture where members cheer each other on through tough conditioning drills. They also offer a clear, structured pathway for beginners who eventually want to step into the ring.

Standard full memberships also include access to a nearby pool and sauna for recovery, if you want to make it a proper training-and-recovery routine.

The trade-off is it’s built more for committed members than casual visitors. A basic concession card also limits you to scheduled group sessions only, so you miss out on open gym access between classes.

Plus, anyone entering the fighter development pipeline has to commit to an ongoing membership rather than casual drop-ins.

Pros

  • Authentic Thai coaching
  • Pool and sauna access
  • Extended daily facility hours

Cons

  •
  • No open gym for casuals
  • Mandatory fighter membership
  • Peak hour parking limits

Awesome Knowledgeable Coaches and Excellent Support

Highly Effective Massage and Excellent Training

Hi Tarras

some feed back on my journey so far.

Firstly the sports massage. I have had two others and Bahar’s is the  most effective and best to date

As a result I am a little bit more flexible with my pre-existing injury.

Bahar’s one on one  training is simply excellent. As he is able to slow it down and  break it down  to my absolute beginner level and make it understandable for me.

Bahar comes from a top flight gym to rivals any Les Mills gym in Bang Tao- Phuket and is excellent at his work.
