Her experience inspired me to team up with the Auckland Magazine crew to find the best LASIK centers.
We explored eye clinics, reviewed their technology, and spoke with top LASIK surgeons.

How much does it cost to get LASIK in Auckland?
It costs at least 3,000 NZD per eye to get LASIK in Auckland.

The most impressive thing about Revision Sight Correction Centre’s LASIK procedure is their use of the Ziemer Z6 Femtosecond Laser.
We like how they take the time to explain how this cutting-edge technology works. It creates precise, flap-free incisions to reduce complications and promote faster healing.
We appreciate that the procedure is efficient and not stressful. From measurements to the actual procedure, everything is done promptly.
Besides that, many people felt reassured by the staff’s efforts to ease their pre-LASIK anxieties. The staff provides calming support throughout the entire process.
However, we found the post-procedure care instructions to be unclear. This could lead to confusion or mistakes during recovery.
Regardless, we were surprised you don’t need a patch afterward. Instead, you wear easy-to-use protective shields.

2. Eye Institute

Eye Institute uses both femtosecond and excimer lasers to make the entire LASIK procedure incredibly precise and controlled. It’s impressive how quickly the laser creates the corneal flap—just 15 seconds per eye!
While the lasers are top-notch, the excimer laser’s ‘zapping’ sounds and smell were unexpected for some, and a few found them a bit jarring.
Despite this, we like how they use a special device to prevent blinking. This helps many to feel confident that their eyes are in the safest possible position.
Plus, the staff is fantastic at reassuring patients throughout the process. Everyone is friendly and professional, from the initial consultation to the post-op checkups.
We also appreciate that they provide clear instructions on how to use the eyelid drop. The post-op appointments are also very thorough.
On top of that, patients appreciate the calm atmosphere of the clinic. This goes a long way in easing pre-procedure anxiety.

I cannot say enough about Dr Mantell & the team at Eye Institute, they do Gods work!
I had worn contacts for 15yrs and glasses for even more. I’m 38 yrs old now and had my eye lasik done around this time in 2016. Had my eyes tested today and I still have better than 20/20 vision! The op at the time was the most seamless, professional, painless experience I had medically. Everything went right, cannot fault to this day… It was and has been life changing. The best money I have spent on myself – HANDS DOWN! What a wonderful organisation, staff and facilities. We were highly impressed with Auckland Eye’s precise lasers. They use the Visumax femtosecond laser and Carl Zeiss Mel90 excimer laser.
We appreciate the fast and painless process—taking under 15 minutes! This efficiency helps make the experience stress-free and convenient for patients.
Plus, the staff we met were fantastic—kind and reassuring. We appreciate how they make their patients feel comfortable and relaxed. This friendly approach truly eases any tension.
We also admired how they took the time to answer all of our questions and address any concerns. Their detailed explanation of the procedure stood out as particularly helpful.
However, there are limited appointment times available for follow-up checks. A few people we interviewed mentioned having to adjust their schedules to accommodate this.
Despite this minor drawback, we liked that the follow-ups were thorough. The staff made sure all patients were healing well and addressed any issues promptly.

We like how they are incredibly patient and take the time to answer all your questions and concerns—no matter how many there are.
Additionally, many patients told us the whole experience felt very professional. From the initial consultation to the post-operative care, they felt well taken care of and confident in the process.
In terms of advancements, it’s impressive that they use both a femtosecond laser and an excimer laser. We believe this gives you the best of both worlds.
In fact, the femtosecond laser is a standout for its smoother and quicker healing process. On the other hand, the excimer laser excels with its precision in reshaping the cornea.
However, there’s a drawback. We found the clinic’s waiting area to be cramped. This made our experience uncomfortable and could similarly affect other patients during their visit.
