5 Best Hotels Near Sandringham for Different Budgets and Stays

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Location, Location, Location: Was it actually close to Sandringham and Eden Park? Or, at the very least, was it just a quick bus or train ride away?

Good Value: I looked for spots that felt fairly priced. Places that threw in extras like free parking or a kitchenette got bonus points, because those things save you real money.

The Right Amenities: I know not everyone needs the same thing, so I tried to find a mix, including simple rooms for a quick trip and apartment-style spots for a longer stay.

The Real Vibe: I dug into guest reviews to see what people really thought. I wanted to know if the staff was friendly and if the place was as clean as the photos looked.

Looking for a place to stay near Sandringham? This area is a great choice if you want a local vibe instead of the busy Central Business District (CBD).

It’s especially handy if you’re in town for a game at Eden Park or need a spot with good transport links for a longer stay.

But finding the right hotel and location that balances cost and comfort can be tricky.

We’ve done the heavy lifting and sorted through the options to find the best hotels near Sandringham, including budget-friendly rooms and spots with apartment-style comforts.

How Much Do Hotels Near Sandringham Cost?

The cost really depends on what you need.

Budget 3-star spots near the neighbourhood hover above NZ$135 a night. Mid-range 4-star options are usually closer to NZ$220, while 5-star luxury in the nearby Auckland CBD will be upwards of NZ$390.

Prices definitely spike around Eden Park, especially during big games or concerts.

That “event effect” is real, as everyone wants to be close to the action, and this prime location near transport hubs keeps demand high year-round.

1. Parkside Hotel & Apartments

Website: https://www.parksidehotel.co.nz/

Address: 100 Greys Avenue, Auckland Central, Auckland

Contact: 09 375 1800

Schedule: Check-in Time: 2:00 PM, Check-out Time: 10:00 AM

If you want the convenience of the CBD but still value a bit of green space, Parkside is a great compromise.

It’s centrally located on Grey’s Avenue, overlooking a park, but its easy motorway access makes getting to city-fringe suburbs like Sandringham quick and simple.

The rooms are apartment-style, which is a huge plus. Many come with kitchenettes and even washer/dryers, making them well-suited for a longer trip where you want a “home away from home” feel.

My sister stayed here for a week-long work trip and said having the kitchenette and laundry saved her a ton of hassle.

The on-site pool and gym are nice perks too, even if they aren’t brand new.

The trade-off for the great location and space is that the facilities and furnishings can feel a bit dated, but the friendly staff and roomy accommodation offer great value.

Pros

  • Central CBD location with park views
  • Spacious apartment-style rooms
  • Kitchenettes & laundry in many rooms
  • On-site pool and fitness centre
  • Secure on-site parking

Cons

  • Facilities and furnishings can be dated
  • Not within walking distance of Sandringham

We spent two nights in a Deluxe Twin Studio and had a great experience. Travelling with toddlers can be tricky, but the room was spacious and well-equipped with essentials like a microwave and cooktops, which made it easy to prepare meals for toddler. The central location made it convenient to explore the city. The staff were friendly and accommodating — they kindly stored our luggage during early check-in and late check-out, which was a big help.

This recently refurbished hotel is nicely located in a quiet tree lined street near the central city. It’s a short walk to theatres, the art gallery, the city library, Albert Park. Auckland University and AUT university. Regular, frequent buses pass by in a nearby street so you have the convenience without the noise. The staff are pleasant and efficient. Highly recommended.

Address: 36 Sandringham Road (Entrance) or 57 Walters Road‚ Sandringham, Auckland

Contact: 09 846 4919 and [email protected]

Schedule: Available 24/7

You honestly cannot get closer to Eden Park.

This motel is literally a stone’s throw from the stadium, making it a practical base if you’re in town for a game or concert. It’s set in a charming 1910 villa, so it has way more character than a standard motel.

The location is also a huge win for transport, with buses and trains right on the doorstep for a quick 15-minute trip to the CBD. Rooms are practical, with kitchenettes for basic meals.

I’ve spoken to fans who stay here for every game, and they all say the convenience is unbeatable.

While it’s kept incredibly clean, the trade-off for the historic charm is that some of the rooms and bathrooms feel a bit dated and can be on the small side.

Pros

  • Directly opposite Eden Park Stadium
  • Excellent public transport links (bus/rail)
  • Walkable to Kingsland and Dominion Road
  • Friendly and helpful management
  • Free on-site parking

Cons

  • Room decor and bathrooms are dated
  • Some bathrooms are very small

We really enjoy the motel. It is clean. The room was spacious. You have free parking. Good wifi. Air conditioning. You have restaurants around. A gas station close by. The owner is very polite and helpful. Basically you have everything that you need. We will go again for sure, and we strongly recomand it. And if you want to go to Eden Park, this motel is the ideal place (on the other side of the street, only 50 meters away).23

Quest Mount Eden is a fantastic choice for travellers who want independence. As a brand-new apartment hotel, everything feels modern and clean.

The best part is that every single apartment is self-contained with a full kitchenette and its own laundry facilities.

This is a lifesaver for a longer stay or a work trip, letting you save on dining out and pack light. It’s in a great spot, walking distance to both the Mt Eden village and Eden Park.

It’s also geared towards business travellers, offering services like pantry shopping and 24-hour reception services.

Just note the front desk isn’t staffed 24/7 (especially on weekends), and you must book the on-site parking in advance as spots are limited.

  • Walking distance to Mt Eden village & Eden Park
  • Business-focused services (pantry shopping)
  • 24-hour reception service

Our stay at Quest Mt Eden was outstanding! The apartment was incredibly spacious, immaculately clean, and so well thought out—everything we needed was right at our fingertips. The layout was efficient and comfortable, making it easy to settle in and feel at home. The location is also ideal—close to Auckland City’s attractions, dining, and entertainment, yet peaceful and quiet at night. A special mention to the front office reception team who were genuinely friendly, welcoming, and super helpful throughout our stay. Highly recommend this place for anyone visiting Auckland!

Quest is an international hotel brand and it’s a serviced apartment. Quest Mount Eden is quite a newly serviced apartment, and they provided two room types: Studio and One bedroom. In addition, they provided a covered car park and EV charging space.

Address: 83 Valley Road, Mount Eden, Auckland

Schedule: Check-in Time: 2:00 PM and Check-out Time: 10:00 – 10:30 AM

If you can’t stand generic chain hotels, the Bavaria is your spot.

It’s a small, charming hotel tucked away in a quiet corner of Mt. Eden, but it’s still super convenient—only a 7-minute drive to the CBD and an easy walk to Eden Park.

The biggest perk here is the “home-like” feel.

During my stay, I saw guests using the shared kitchen and relaxing in the lounge, which had free tea and coffee. It felt very communal.

Plus, finding free on-site parking this close to the city is a massive bonus.

Just be aware of their check-in times. If you’re arriving after 8:00 PM, you must contact them beforehand to arrange access.

Also, luggage storage isn’t free, which is a bit unusual.

Pros

  • Charming boutique atmosphere
  • Genuine Kiwi hospitality
  • Free on-site parking
  • Quiet yet central Mt. Eden location
  • Access to shared kitchen and lounge

Cons

  • Must pre-arrange for after-hours check-in (after 8 PM)
  • Luggage storage is a paid service ($5/day)

I had a wonderful time staying at the Bavaria with my family. It is very charming and cozy. Located centrally in Mt Eden, it provided easy access to the area. Keri was a wonderful host and was very friendly and helpful in answering any questions we had.

– Chloe, Google Review

We had a warm welcome by the host in the evening when we arrived.

The hotel is wonderful. We were there around christmas days and they set up a small christmas tree with decorations in the living room.

It was cosy and warm from the beginning.

The hosts and staff are super friendly.

The location is perfect as well. Close to mt eden, restaurants and shop and with the bus you‘re quickly in the city.

We really enjoyed our stay there.

5. Morningside Lodge

Website: https://morningsidelodge.co.nz/

Address: 41B Leslie Avenue, Morningside, Auckland

Contact: 027 733 3314

Schedule: Available 24/7 (Viewing by Appointment)

This one is different.

Morningside Lodge is specifically for medium to long-term stays, not a nightly hotel. It’s an amazing option for those needing affordable accommodation for a few weeks or months, such as students or professionals.

The weekly rent not only covers power, but also water and heating, which makes budgeting simple.

It’s right near the Morningside train station, so getting to the CBD is easy. Security is also a major focus, with a live-in manager and swipe-card access.

The main catch is that Wi-Fi isn’t included in the rent, so you have to purchase that separately.

But with free parking (first-come, first-served) and great communal kitchens, it’s a practical, economic choice for a longer stay.

Pros

  • Designed for affordable long-term stays
  • All-inclusive rent (power, water, heating)
  • Excellent security (on-site manager, CCTV)
  • Close to train station and buses
  • Free on-site parking (first-come, first-served)

Cons

  • Not for short-term/nightly stays
  • Wi-Fi is an additional cost

Trudy & Eddy are the most welcoming, warm, friendly, caring & efficient people you will ever meet. They care about their tenants and their well being. They provide a high standard of accommodation to those who reside at the lodge. The whole lodge is very clean and the rooms are modern and warm with everything you need . The location is also perfect. Thanks again for being such amazing people.

– Lexi Manuel, Google Review

I was here for three months. Perfect stay, its easy to organise and not too expensive for short term or long term living. Common areas are kept very clean and Trudy and Eddy are nice people who work hard to keep the place to a high standard. Thanks alot
