I can’t be the only woman who’s walked out of a gynaecologist appointment feeling more like a number than a person—questions brushed aside, barely a moment to get comfortable, and the overall cold experience.
Maybe it was the sterile environment, the impersonal approach, or simply not feeling truly heard. Whatever the reason, that experience had me putting off my next appointment.
If you’ve been through something similar, I get it. Finding a gynaecologist you trust and feel completely at ease with is important, and for many, that connection is strongest with a female practitioner.
That’s why I rallied my colleagues at the Auckland Magazine to research the best female gynaecologists in Auckland. Here’s what we found out!
How much does it cost to see a female gynaecologist in Auckland?
It costs at least 200 NZD to see a female gynaecologist in Auckland.
This price is an estimate. It may change depending on the specialist, follow-up appointments, treatments, and other factors.
1. Dr Lulu Van Eeden – AWG | Auckland Women’s Gynaecology

Address: 125 Ormiston Road, Flat Bush
Contact Details: 022 039 4845
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Friday – 8 AM to 5 PM
- Saturday – 9 AM to 1 PM
Website:https://www.aucklandwomensgynae.co.nz
Dr Lulu van Eeden’s impressive qualifications from Otago University, including top graduate awards in obstetrics and gynaecology, speak volumes. And she speaks Mandarin, so we give her bonus points!
When it comes to gynaecological cancers, we love that she explains everything so clearly and makes her patients feel supported throughout their treatments.
For endometriosis, patients like the option to have minimally invasive surgery to remove the tissue or take specific medications to manage the pain and slow the growth of the condition.
We also found her diagnostic skills really helpful for those with menstrual disorders. She doesn’t just dismiss heavy periods; she finds the causes and offers solutions to make them more bearable.
We also love how helpful she is to patients going through menopause. Patients said they appreciate how she discusses both HRT (hormone replacement therapy) and non-hormonal options like specific medications to help with hot flashes or sleep problems.
What we aren’t too fond of, though, is her limited appointment availability due to her public hospital commitments.
Nothing but high praise for Dr Lulu
“I’ve got nothing but high praise for Dr Lulu van Eeden. She is compassionate, clear with her communication, honest and a darn fine surgeon. My recovery from surgery was smooth sailing thanks to her skills. Would not hesitate to recommend. Quality care and every effort is made to work appointments in at suitable times. What could have been quite an ordeal was actually a pleasant experience, thank you Dr Lulu.”

Others dealing with pelvic pain and endometriosis also appreciated her thorough investigations and empathetic approach.
She also tackles ovarian cysts head-on by making use of diagrams to explain the different types of cysts. This really helps patients better understand their situation.
Women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) told us they felt heard as she addressed their different symptoms one by one.

The only drawback would be her fees. She is a private doctor, so her services don’t run cheap.

Dr Sarah Corbett is the most wonderful, professional practitioner and I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a specialist who will advocate for you, really listen to you and be a true partner in your health journey. I cannot say enough about her. Thank you also to Susan on the admin team – very easy to deal with and very responsive. Unfortunately there was a major error made at the hospital which necessitates a repeat operation – I am beyond grateful that I have this team by my side as I negotiate what comes next.”
