Maybe it was all in my head, but I went to see an audiologist. It was 20 minutes of them just trying to sell me a hearing aid that I didn’t need—it was just tinnitus.
While I’m fine now, hearing issues are no joke.
So, to save you the trouble of going to someone subpar, I checked a few audiologists myself. These are the ones worth your time.

I was drawn to Leanne Ma’s expertise in working with children, particularly her specialization in Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA). This technique allows her to diagnose hearing issues in infants and toddlers with ease.
I saw firsthand how gentle and patient she was with kids. I like that she uses colorful toys and interactive games to make hearing tests fun and engaging.
Beyond her work with children, I appreciate her knowledge of conductive and sensorineural hearing loss. Many patients praised the thorough care and exceptional support she provided.
Her expertise in auditory processing disorder (APD) assessments also stood out. She explained the complexities of APD and its impact on communication.
Her practical approach impressed me as well. She provides patients with helpful strategies and resources to improve auditory processing skills.
The only challenge I noticed was the limited availability of walk-in appointments. It could be inconvenient for those without scheduled visits.

“Absolutely amazing experience! Highly recommended! We saw Leanne and she was so patient, gentle, encouraging and worked so well with my daughter; gently easing her through her worries or fears and helping her complete the hearing tests. If you have a child that struggles a bit with sensory sensitivities, noises, new experiences and going to the drs or dentists etc. is an absolute dread then definitely check these people out if it is a hearing test (all info on their website) you need done for your children. I was amazed by Emma Russell of Boutique Audiology. She takes the time to understand each person’s unique situation. This made many feel heard and not just treated like another patient.
I loved that Emma’s knowledge was really infectious. She’s a real expert on hearing aids and their impact on overall well-being. I learned so much about how they help prevent cognitive decline.
Another thing that stood out to me is her thorough approach to helping you choose hearing aids. I appreciate how she avoids overwhelming you with jargon and transparently explains everything.
Aside from her expertise, I was genuinely impressed by the office’s calm and welcoming atmosphere. But I won’t sugarcoat it—it’s small and can get crowded in the afternoon.
Regardless, I was still pleased by their one-week trial option. Many of her customers appreciate getting a feel for the hearing aids in their daily lives before committing.

I was impressed by Ear Health Birkenhead’s free online hearing test. It was simple, informative, and flagged areas to discuss with a professional.
In-person, the audiologists are fantastic—especially Jerika. She stood out with her detailed explanations and patience in answering all my questions. You can tell she genuinely cares about her patients—and I felt that too.
Her thoroughness during hearing tests impressed me. She takes her time pinpointing issues and never rushes.
Many people also rave about their gentle earwax removal procedures using micro-suction. It’s painless and super effective.
They also offer hearing aid fittings, repairs, and ongoing maintenance.
However, their fitting process feels rushed. Some wanted more precise explanations of hearing aid options.

Abby Johnson has a genuine knack for putting you at ease. She has an amazing way of making you feel at ease. Her warm smile and genuine interest in my hearing concerns instantly put me at ease—and I loved it.
She’s also excellent at handling pediatric hearing issues. I saw her using fun, child-friendly techniques. This included giving them toys to keep them distracted during assessments.
What I appreciated most was her approach to hearing aids. I loved that Abby doesn’t push any specific brand but focuses on finding the best solution for each patient.
Her patients find her approach refreshing because she truly listens to their needs. She doesn’t pressure them into buying something they aren’t ready for.
Her transparency and helpful tips really stood out for me. She genuinely cares and prioritizes finding the best solution for each patient.
However, I found the earwax removal process a bit uncomfortable. A gentler approach would likely be better for those with sensitive ears.

From the moment I met Kinau of Hearing by Design, I understood why so many people feel they’re in good hands with her.
I truly appreciated her patience and encouragement during diagnostic hearing tests. She made the entire process feel much less intimidating.
What stood out to me even more was how clearly she explained the test results. It made them easy to understand.
Her expertise in tinnitus is also genuinely impressive. I was particularly struck by her detailed explanations of the various causes of tinnitus. She also covered the available treatment options and effective management strategies.
I also found it very valuable that she shared a helpful strategy for reducing the impact of tinnitus in everyday life.
The only area for improvement I noticed was the limited range of hearing aid brands offered. I believe adding more reputable brands would make the experience even better.
