So, I have this uncle who thinks he’s still 25 despite what his license—and knees—say. He recently decided his two-story house wasn’t exactly his best friend anymore.
Much to our delight (and amusement), he started researching assisted living options. And let me tell you, some of the places he’s found are practically five-star resorts!
Now that you’re looking for one too, you have to check out our list of Auckland’s best assisted living options, based on the ones we visited and absolutely loved! So, read on!
How much does assisted living cost in Auckland? In Auckland, you can expect to pay between $5,000 and $8,000 NZD per month for assisted living. This cost typically covers room and board, personal care assistance, daily meals and snacks, housekeeping services, and activities. |
How We Chose the Best
Edmund Hillary Retirement Village
Address: 221 Abbotts Way, Remuera
Phone: +6495700070
Business Hours:
- Open 24 hours
When talking about Edmund Hillary, it’s hard not to get excited about their great setup. We loved their warm and inviting atmosphere, especially since the staff accommodated us immediately.
As for their assisted living package, we were happy to see the inclusions. Rent, utilities, housekeeping, laundry services, and a variety of meals and snacks are all included!
Additionally, they also offer personal care assistance like help with bathing, dressing, and medication management. Now, some of the residents we spoke with said they always feel comfortable and at home, thanks to the attentive care provided by the staff.
Plus, we were impressed by the range of activities and amenities they offer. These are fitness classes and social events to keep residents engaged.
Another is the on-site café that caters to their dietary requirements, as well as a garden that had us staying for quite a while.
However, some clients mentioned occasional delays during busy times. Plus, the cost is definitely on the pricier side, but most of us think the value you get more than justifies it.
Pros
- Attentive and caring staff
- Wide range of activities and amenities
- Great environment
- High-quality meals
Cons
- High costs

Rawhiti Estate feels more like a boutique hotel than anything else, thanks to its setup that’s super modern and upscale. The assisted living package they offer is pretty comprehensive.
When you sign up, you’re getting 24/7 care, meal services, and housekeeping. Beyond these, you’ll also enjoy the thoughtfully designed recreational activities.
We chatted with a few residents, and they couldn’t stop raving about the friendly staff. Another thing they loved is the variety of activities offered.
This includes fitness classes to brain games, which definitely keeps them engaged and active.
What we liked most is the reputation they’ve built up for a high standard of care and attention to detail. These things were evident with how clean and well-maintained everything was when we visited.
We’re just a bit iffy about the costs, though. Nevertheless, we all agreed that it’s worth it since the quality of care and amenities are stellar.

Address: 123 Stanley Road, Glenfield
Phone: +6494444010
Business Hours:
- Monday to Friday – 8:30 AM to 5 PM
- Saturday and Sunday – 9 AM to 5 PM
We took a stroll through the Orchards ourselves, and we were struck by the warm, home-like atmosphere. Every corner was designed to make residents feel comfortable and at ease.
What impressed us too, was the variety of activities on offer. We saw fitness programs, art classes, and even some communal gardening.
Chatting with a few of the residents, they couldn’t stop praising the quality of care. The staff members we met took the time to address all our concerns while still being attentive to their clients.
The amenities are another big plus. Here, they have a cozy café, a well-stocked library, and even a hair salon.
However, of course, the costs are on the higher side. In addition, the parking was also a bit scarce, making it tricky for visitors to find a spot.
We’re a bit iffy too about the availability of rooms during peak times. However, the management seems to have a good handle on it with a waitlist system in place.
Pros
- Good variety of activities
- High quality of care
- Warm and attentive staff
- Excellent amenities
- High living standards
Cons
- Higher costs

- Monday to Friday – 8:30 AM to 5 PM
We took a visit to St. Andrew’s Village to really get a feel for it, and it did not disappoint. From our chats with residents and staff, everyone here seemed to be in their best state.
Now, the place offers rooms that are spacious and well-kept. They’ve also got these beautiful gardens that residents love to spend time in.
In addition to these, they’ve got a top-notch dining area and a little cafe that’s perfect for visits with family and friends.
Moreover, their range of activities is pretty impressive. We saw everything from art classes to fitness sessions, keeping everyone active and engaged.
Honestly, we were happy with the level of care. The staff were attentive and really seemed to know each resident’s needs inside out.
However, the price is on the higher end, which could be a downside if you’re on a budget. Another thing is that during peak times, staffing can seem a bit stretched thin.

- Beautiful gardens
- Wide range of activities
- Attentive and caring staff

The Sands Care Centre and Village
Address: 9 Bayview Road, Browns Bay
Phone: +6494750061
Business Hours:
- Monday to Sunday – 8 AM to 5 PM
Upon our visit to The Sands Care Center, we saw firsthand the sense of community and warmth right at the entrance. We all agreed that it’s got this homely vibe, and it clearly doesn’t feel like one of those impersonal, big-box facilities.
The folks we chatted with rave about the quality of care they’re receiving. They added that the staff are attentive and immediately respond whenever they call for help.
There’s always something to keep them engaged, thanks to the social events and relaxing garden areas. In addition, they also have a chaplain, communal BBQ areas, and van trips from time to time.
What’s more, we noticed that the facilities are modern and well-kept. This gives off a crisp, clean atmosphere that’s hard to come by in many assisted living places.
One thing we’re just a bit iffy about is the high cost. Also, while the high demand and bustling activity are nice, things can get a bit busy during peak times.
Pros
- Attentive staff
- Diverse activities and amenities
- Modern, well-kept facilities
- Personalized care plans
- Excellent location near shops and beach
Cons
- Higher cost
- Busy during peak times
