5 Best Wisdom Tooth Removal Pros in Auckland for Better Bites

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Surgical skill: I looked for clinics that handle straightforward removals and tricky impacted teeth. A tooth with awkward roots shouldn’t leave everyone scratching their heads.

Pain relief: I checked options from local anaesthetic to IV sedation and general anaesthesia. Nervous patients deserve a plan they’re comfortable with.

Clear costs: I compared consultation fees, multi-tooth packages and available funding. An extraction is enough of a surprise without a mystery bill.

Aftercare: I checked instructions, follow-up care and help if something feels wrong. Good support matters once the numbness wears off.

My last dental clinic visit came with a surprise: an impacted wisdom tooth. Apparently, it had been making trouble behind my back.

Now I’m weighing up X-rays, recovery time and what the bill might do to my weekend plans. I’d like someone who can explain the options without making my jaw ache more.

So I’ve looked into clinics offering the best wisdom tooth removal in Auckland. Here are several places to consider when your molars start acting up.

How much does wisdom tooth removal cost in Auckland?

A simple wisdom tooth extraction is estimated at NZ$200–$550 per tooth. An impacted tooth needing surgery may cost NZ$350–$1,200 per tooth.

For complex specialist surgery, allow NZ$1,200–$2,500 or more per tooth. These are planning ranges; the quote depends on your case.

An all-four removal package is estimated at NZ$1,990–$2,490.

An initial consultation may cost NZ$50–$185, and a panoramic X-ray (OPG) may add NZ$90–$160. IV sedation may add NZ$400–$900.

Check what’s included: one Auckland clinic’s NZ$2,490 package includes the consultation and X-ray.

1. Stoddard Dental Square

stoddard-dental-square
  • Website
  • Address: 230 Stoddard Road, Mount Roskill
  • Contact: [email protected] | 0800 4 MOUTH (0800 4 66884) | 09-620-7771
  • Hours: Monday-Saturday, 8:30 AM – 6 PM | Sunday, 9:30 AM – 6 PM

If a wisdom tooth starts causing trouble on a Sunday, Stoddard Dental Square’s seven-day opening hours are a welcome sight.

I’d call ahead for an urgent slot, though, since being open doesn’t mean they can whisk you straight into the chair.

At its Mount Roskill clinic, the team assesses impacted wisdom teeth and offers extractions or surgical treatment where appropriate. I like that they provide follow-up support, because recovery begins once you’ve left the chair.

Free WINZ quotes can help you explore funding before committing to treatment. The clinic offers Southern Cross Easy Claim for eligible services, but your policy determines what’s covered.

The sticking point is general anaesthesia, which the clinic doesn’t offer. If you want to be fully unconscious for surgery, you’ll need another provider.

Pros

  • Open seven days a week
  • Treats impacted wisdom teeth
  • Supports Southern Cross Easy Claim for eligible services

Cons

  • No general anaesthesia
  • Urgent appointments depend on availability

Same-Day Wisdom Tooth Relief

The Best Experience I’ve had. Thanks to Dr Mauly Modi, I had my wisdom tooth extraction and didn’t feel a thing 😀 Also, to the Friendly and comforting receptionist, thank you for the best communication and for welcoming my family and me with a big smile 😀 Also, for accepting me in an emergency on the same day for extraction 100000/100000

Fast, Comfortable Extraction Care

Best service! Very fast and efficient, and the kindest staff; they make you feel extremely comfortable throughout your whole appointment. Came in to get my wisdom tooth pulled out, and they thoroughly explained what they were doing and what I have to do after the extraction was completed. Will definitely come back if needed and will highly recommend to others.

2. NSOMS (Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons)

nsoms-oral-maxillofacial-surgeons
  • Website
  • Address: 08/3 Akoranga Drive, Northcote
  • Contact: [email protected] | 0800 676 670 | Fax: 09 486 8187
  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM

An impacted wisdom tooth can make a routine dental visit feel a lot less routine. NSOMS caught my eye because its specialist surgeons handle straightforward removals and trickier impacted teeth.

Dr Han Choi focuses on wisdom tooth extractions, while Dr Rajiv Rajpal has a particular interest in complex impacted teeth. You can book directly, so there’s no need to chase a referral while your molar stages a rebellion.

Depending on your assessment, NSOMS offers local anaesthetic, sedation or general anaesthesia for wisdom tooth removal. It arranges a one-week follow-up, giving you a chance to check how recovery is going before returning to your dentist.

The catch is that its Northcote and Newmarket clinics are open on weekdays only. Fitting in the consultation, surgery and follow-up could take some diary juggling if you work standard hours.

Also, with clinics in Northcote and Newmarket only, some South and West Auckland patients may face longer trips for their consultation, surgery and follow-up.

Pros

  • Specialist surgeons treat complex impacted wisdom teeth
  • Accepts bookings without a dentist’s referral
  • Offers local anaesthetic, sedation and general anaesthesia
  • Arranges a one-week follow-up

Cons

  • Closed on weekends
  • Long trips for some South and West Auckland patients

Supportive Wisdom Tooth Aftercare

I had my wisdom tooth removed here and had a great experience overall. A huge thank you to Dr Sam Goldsmith and the team of nurses. They were professional, caring, and genuinely invested in my recovery, providing excellent aftercare until everything healed properly. I would highly recommend them.

Smooth Four-Tooth Removal Recovery

Dr Han Choi and the team are great! Dr Han Choi has a kind heart and excellent skills. My son had all four of his wisdom teeth removed at the same time, and he recovered very well after the surgery. The swelling completely subsided within two days, without any infection or discomfort. Currently, he is able to brush his teeth gently and is making rapid progress towards full recovery. Once again, thank you all at NSOMS! You are the best!

3. Caring 4 Smiles Dental Group

  • Address: 475 Manukau Road, Epsom
  • Contact: 09 631 5416 | 027 226 9959
  • Hours: Monday-Thursday, 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM | Friday-Saturday, 7:30 AM – 3 PM

When a wisdom tooth starts throwing a tantrum, I’d rather hear a treatment plan than a vague promise to be gentle. Caring 4 Smiles appeals to me because its Epsom dentists assess the tooth with X-rays and handle both simple and surgical extractions.

The practice began in a single room in 1995 and has grown into a larger clinic. Its Saturday appointments caught my eye too, since jaw pain rarely checks the work calendar.

For nervous patients, the clinic offers sedation alongside local anaesthetic when suitable.

It can set aside time for urgent Saturday treatment when you call, though I’d book rather than assume a slot is free.

However, deeply impacted teeth near a major nerve may need a specialist referral. The same applies if you need general anaesthesia, so it’s worth clarifying this at your assessment.

Pros

  • Handles simple and surgical wisdom tooth extractions
  • Offers sedation for suitable patients
  • Opens on Saturdays
  • Can accommodate urgent treatment when slots are available

Cons

  • Deeply impacted teeth near a major nerve may need specialist referral
  • Cases requiring general anaesthesia are referred out

Affordable Multi-Tooth Extraction

I hardly ever leave reviews for anything, but the service at Caring 4 Smiles is exceptional. The receptionists are lovely, and Dr Kelvin and his colleagues were able to remove three of my very troublesome wisdom teeth at a fraction of the cost I had been quoted previously by other dentists/specialists. Thank you!!!

Reassuring Wisdom Tooth Recovery

Been going to this dentist for a while now and have had a pleasant experience every time I showed up. The staff are very kind and make sure that you are well looked after. Just recently got my wisdom teeth removed by Adam and was very nervous at the beginning, but thanks to him checking up on me now and then, the past week went by comfortably. Very grateful for all the support and would recommend him to anyone.

4. Auckland Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Group

Once an impacted wisdom tooth starts making demands, I want more than a reassuring smile and a pair of forceps. AOMS is a good option because its surgeons have both medical and dental qualifications and treat complex mouth and jaw conditions.

Dr Chris Sealey’s work includes impacted tooth removal, spreading dental infections and benign jaw cysts. At the CBD practice, OPG X-rays and CBCT scans help the team assess the area before planning treatment.

I also appreciate having local anaesthetic and IV sedation to discuss, with general anaesthesia available at the Quay Park surgical centre upstairs. It’s a useful range when a tooth isn’t playing nicely, though the right option depends on your assessment.

The CBD practice closes on weekends, though, so appointments may mean time off work.

It’s also important to note that Dr Sealey’s Manurewa location performs procedures under local anaesthetic only. This means you’d need another treatment location for sedation or general anaesthesia.

Pros

  • Surgeons hold both medical and dental qualifications
  • Treats impacted teeth and complex jaw conditions
  • CBD practice has OPG X-rays and CBCT scans
  • Offers local anaesthetic, IV sedation and general anaesthesia at its CBD facilities

Cons

  • CBD practice is closed on weekends
  • Dr Sealey’s Manurewa location performs procedures under local anaesthetic only

Comfortable Coronectomy Experience

Was referred to Dr Cameron Lewis for the removal of my four wisdom teeth – including a coronectomy of one – and the whole procedure from start to finish was amazing. As someone with a slight fear of procedures like this, they did everything to make this a comfortable and relaxing process. They were polite and compassionate, and very detailed with the aftercare instructions. Definitely recommend Dr Lewis and his team.

Calm and Smooth Surgical Recovery

I had my wisdom teeth removed by Cameron Lewis. I was very nervous before the procedure, but he did an amazing job, and I had a smooth recovery. The building was easy to find, and there was plenty of parking. All of the staff were friendly and approachable and happy to answer all of my questions. Thank you to Cameron and the team for such a positive experience.

5. Maxcare Dental – Otahuhu

  • Website
  • Address: Unit 6, 225 Great South Road, Otahuhu
  • Contact: [email protected] | 0800 214 135
  • Hours: Monday-Saturday, 9 AM – 5 PM | Sunday, 9 AM – 4 PM

An aching wisdom tooth doesn’t care whether it’s Sunday, so Maxcare Dental’s seven-day Ōtāhuhu schedule catches my eye. Its dentists bring over 35 years of combined experience and assess each tooth before planning removal.

They handle wisdom tooth removals in the clinic, including surgical cases where suitable. I like that the initial consultation is free, giving me a chance to ask questions before committing to treatment.

If multiple extractions make you clench your jaw, IV sedation may be an option under a qualified anaesthetist’s care. The team provides aftercare guidance on food, bleeding and when to start saltwater rinses.

The bill deserves a closer look, though: wisdom tooth removal starts at $550 per tooth, and any X-rays needed for the assessment cost extra.

IV sedation also carries a separate anaesthetist fee, so I recommend asking for a full quote before giving that molar its eviction notice.

Pros

  • Ōtāhuhu clinic opens seven days a week
  • Handles suitable surgical wisdom tooth removals in clinic
  • IV sedation may be available for multiple extractions

Cons

  • Wisdom tooth removal starts at $550 per tooth
  • X-rays and IV sedation can add to the bill
