The 5 Best Videographers in Auckland to Get Your Story Told

videographers-in-auckland
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.
  • Portfolio and Style: We reviewed each videographer's portfolio. We paid close attention to their style, technical skills, and ability to capture different types of events.
  • Testimonials: We interviewed customers based on their remarks on the videographers' professionalism, communication, and thoughts on the videos they received.
  • Equipment: We assessed the videographers' equipment, including cameras, lenses, microphones, and editing software. We ensured they had the tools to deliver high-quality footage and a professional final product.
  • Pricing: We compared pricing structures and packages offered by different videographers. We looked for clear descriptions of services and flexibility to accommodate various budgets.

We’ve heard horror stories about videographers. They show up late, fumble with their equipment, or deliver footage that’s shaky—or worse, being downright boring. It’s enough to make anyone think twice about hiring one.

A great videographer is a game-changer—they capture moments, tell stories, and create lasting memories.

To save you time from endless scrolling and stressful guesswork, the Auckland Magazine crew and I put together a list of the best videographers in the city.

These are the pros who know how to craft videos you’ll want to rewatch again and again.

How much does it cost to hire a videographer in Auckland?

It costs at least 500 NZD per video to hire a videographer in Auckland.

This price is just an estimate. The actual cost will depend on the project scope, the editing time, post-production, and more.

Chris has over 700 weddings under his belt, so he knows his way around wedding videography. He captivated us with his ability to portray a couple’s love story as if it were a moment frozen in time.

We like how he takes the time to sit down with couples before the big day to talk through the kind of vibe they’re going for, whether it’s romantic or upbeat.

We also love that you’re not short on options when working with him. He offers basic full multicam 4K ceremony videos, single-cam live streams, and his signature cinema-grade 4K highlight films.

His highlight films also got our attention. It’s a condensed version of your wedding day that focuses on the most important moments.

Many of the couples we talked to said they really love how they can customise the mood for these films. They can choose to have their vows over the footage.

Additionally, he does all the editing himself, which means he can ensure your video reflects your vision. Many couples have praised him for editing out the awkward moments from their big day and adding appropriate special effects.

The one downside? He’s booked up pretty far in advance, so you need to reach out to him early.

Pros

  • Over 700+ wedding videos
  • Multicam 4K ceremony videos
  • Awesome cinema-grade 4K highlight films
  • Does single-camera live streams
  • Does all the edits himself

Cons

  • Booking slots fill up quickly

“If you are looking for the absolute best, you have found that and more with Chris. His style on the day was so much fun and all the photos and videos turned out much better than we could have imagined, even after looking at all his other really impressive work! You will only be disappointed if you don’t go with Chris!”

We genuinely couldn’t have been more happy with how everything turned out

“We had Chris capture our wedding day and we couldn’t be happier with all of the photos and videos!! He made us feel so comfortable on the day, my husband and I loved that it didn’t feel like a ‘photo shoot’, but more of a fun experience where real candid memories were captured. We genuinely couldn’t have been more happy with how everything turned out – would recommend Chris as your wedding photographer/videographer to anyone!! Thanks again Chris :)”

Layton Creative is a real pro when it comes to bringing your brand’s story to life on video.

We were impressed by how helpful he is with the companies he works with. We like how he gets knees deep into assisting with brainstorming video concepts and even gives pointers on script writing and production.

Several businesses mentioned how he helped them with a product showcase video that really captured the attention of their audience. He used slow-motion and close-up shots to highlight the details of their products.

Others told us he helped them with corporate videos that really captured the spirit of their company culture.

We also love his use of B-roll footage to show the different aspects of their daily work life. This is like those shots that aren’t the main focus but add visual interest.

He is also a whiz at aerial videography, which means he can capture shots that give a bird’ s-eye perspective.

Now, while he’s a great choice for business videos, Layton isn’t really the guy for personal videos. So, if you’re looking for someone to capture your wedding or birthday party, you might want to look elsewhere.

Pros

  • Videos that tell a story
  • Brainstorming, script writing, and production
  • Excellent product showcase videos
  • Awesome aerial videography

Cons

  • Doesn’t do personal videos

Layton’s work speaks for itself and I am soooo happy with the finished product! I highly recommend Layton, his services will definitely level up any business!!”

Up&Up, run by Chris Street and his team, is known for creating engaging and impactful videos that get people’s attention. After seeing the videos they’ve filmed, we totally understand why they got that reputation.

We love how they incorporate pretty cool animation effects to help generate a lot of buzz and interest.

Additionally, we like the way Up&Up helps businesses create videos for social media. They keep the videos short, snappy, and eye-catching. This really helps grab the audience’s attention and keep them scrolling.

They’re also a great choice for construction videos. Several of their clients told us how they captured the time-lapse footage of new building projects, which we think really showed the progress of the construction and how everything came together.

Others raved about their work with sports videos. Their impressive use of slow-motion shots and high-speed footage instantly captured our attention and kept us wanting to watch more of the sample clips we saw.

The only con we heard was that their timelines can occasionally be long. A few said they had to wait a few weeks for their videos to be completed, which is a bit frustrating and inconvenient.

Pros

  • Utilises cool animation effects
  • Time-lapse construction videos
  • Exciting sports videos
  • Eye-catching social media clips

Cons

  • Long turnaround time

Chris guided us through the process producing an outstanding video

“The Waipaparoa Kāhui Ako have been so impressed with the work of Chris and the team at Up&Up. They helped to create a promotional video for 7 schools to share our journey together. Chris guided us through the process producing an outstanding video which has been shared across many communities and on several different websites. His work is professional and of a high quality. Up&Up helped to capture the essence of the work that has been carried out across the different schools beautifully.”

At Create X Wonder, videographers Grant and Lucas are an awesome duo when it comes to creating premium digital video content.

We find it impressive that they specialise in a whole range of videos, from snappy social media clips to full-blown corporate films. They’ve worked with big names like Nissan and Fletcher Living, so you know they’re the real deal.

Companies we talked to love Create X Wonder’s compelling client testimonial videos, which help them build trust and credibility. We also think their use of many close-up shots makes the testimonials feel more intimate and engaging.

Other businesses rave that the explainer videos helped them to increase sales and improve customer understanding of their product.

What really stood out to us, though, were their engaging recruitment videos. We love how they incorporate drone footage, which gives you that awesome view. Their videos also give a real feel of what it would be like to work with the company.

That said, getting in touch with them can sometimes feel frustrating. A few people admitted they had to send a few emails before they finally got a response.

Pros

  • Snappy social media clips
  • Sales increasing explainer videos
  • Intimate testimonial clips
  • Engaging recruitment videos

Cons

  • Difficult to get in touch with

They are the best in the game

“What an amazing team. Attention to detail and great direction on set and in the editing room. I have worked with Grant and his team Create x Wonder on a few productions now and I can possibly say they are the best in the game.”

Nathan Thomas Videography is a one-man show with a real knack for creating visually compelling footage that tells a story. He does everything from event videos to aerial videography.

We love how Nathan uses many dynamic camera movements, like panning and tilting. The variety of perspectives he captures keeps his videos engaging and visually striking. In the clips we reviewed, his unique approach made every scene more captivating.

Nathan’s work is especially valued in the corporate world. Many clients rave about how collaborative he is during the production process. If you’re stuck on scripting or need help brainstorming ideas, he’s a real lifesaver.

We also really appreciate that he takes the time to direct clients during the shoot. Many said this really helped ensure that the footage was of high quality.

Beyond corporate work, Nathan also has a knack for educational videos. His work with Waitakere College and Hobsonville Point Secondary School is a great example. It showcases his ability to capture the energy and excitement of a learning environment.

The only downside is Nathan’s popularity—his schedule can fill up months in advance. You’ll have to wait until his availability opens up, which isn’t always ideal.

Pros

  • Helpful with scripting and brainstorming
  • Directs clients during shoots
  • Films videos for various industries

Cons

“I had a great experience working with Nathan on some video interview projects. He was professional, responsive, efficient and a great communicator. I would definitely work with him again for any projects in Auckland!”

“Nathan has been producing client testimonial videos for my business over the last couple of years and I could not be more pleased. He handles the whole process from start to finish with very little input needed from us.  It is obvious by the end result that he makes our clients feel comfortable as they really open up and share their experience of working with us. I am happy to strongly recommend Nathan and the work he produces.”
