It wasn’t until I sorted out my eye issues that I realized how much I’d been missing. So, if you’re tired of squinting your way through life, it’s time to take action.
The Auckland Magazine team and I scouted the city’s top clinics to help you see the world in a whole new light.

Eyes and Eyelids is a great spot for all your eye care needs. The operating rooms are impressive and packed with the latest technology. This is always reassuring when it comes to something as important as your eyes.
The staff were super friendly and helpful during our visit. The overall vibe of the place felt professional but also calming—definitely a place where you can feel at ease.
What really stood out to us, though, were their oculoplastic surgery services. People who had eyelid surgery here said the results were fantastic. It gave them a fresh and youthful look.
Another area where they really shine is cataract surgery. Many people reported dramatic improvements in their vision after the procedure. They also mentioned that the recovery was smooth and relatively stress-free.
We loved how much they focus on patient comfort, particularly during the recovery process—it seems like they really want you to feel supported all the way through.
That said, their front desk booking system could use some improvement. A few patients told us their appointments had been canceled unexpectedly.

Auckland Optometrists is a fantastic choice if you’re looking for family-friendly eye care. They really make an effort to ensure everyone feels comfortable, which is very important when bringing in kids.
Their eye exams go above and beyond the usual checkup. They don’t just check your vision but also look at your eyelids and lashes and even test color perception. That level of detail really impressed us!
We were especially impressed by how well they detect refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. They also test your eye muscles to ensure they move and work together properly.
Another big win is their focus on glaucoma. Thanks to their thorough glaucoma screenings, many patients have been able to start treatment before things get worse.
When it comes to glasses and contact lenses, they’ve got a solid selection. We lost count of how many stylish frames they had available. However, we’ll admit that some of their glasses are on the pricey side.

Nvision Eyecare really impressed us with their deep knowledge of specialized eye care, particularly in areas like orthokeratology (Ortho-K).
We were particularly amazed by how thoroughly their team explained the process. It’s refreshing when a clinic takes the time to make everything so clear.
Nvision Eyecare also excels in treating astigmatism. The eye doctors here are knowledgeable about the different causes—it’s impressive!
But it wasn’t just the specialized treatments that caught our attention. The staff here is incredibly compassionate and understanding of the discomfort that comes with dry eye, making the experience even more comforting.
The only downside? The front desk staff can sometimes come across as a little curt or rushed. It’s not a major issue, but a friendlier greeting would’ve made the experience even better.

4. Eye Doctors

If there’s anything that stood out to us about Eye Doctors, it’s their focus on personalized care. Patients here get one-on-one attention from a specialist, even for routine checkups.
We were really impressed by the range of eye conditions they handle.
For instance, we talked to a few people dealing with keratoconus, which is a tricky cornea issue. The eye doctors here helped them get their vision back on track with treatments like corneal cross-linking and special contact lenses.
Others struggling with retinal vein occlusions had great results with laser treatments.
What we really loved, though, was their specialization in kids’ eye care. A couple of parents were so grateful that they could diagnose and treat their kids’ lazy eyes and strabismus (squints).
Some kids needed glasses, while others got vision therapy—the bottom line is that Eye Doctors helped these families avoid bigger problems down the road.
The only thing people complained about is that the waiting times can sometimes be a bit long.

“I highly recommend Doctor Andrew Riely! My Mother received eye surgery after 20+ years of being blind in one eye. After one week of healing, she is able to see more than before. Eye Institute Auckland is a big deal in the eye care world, especially when it comes to LASIK surgery.
One of the main reasons they’re on this list is their expertise in 100% blade-free Intralase Custom LASIK. They were the first to introduce the procedure, which is considered one of the safest laser eye surgery available.
Many people we talked to said thanks to their LASIK, they were able to ditch their glasses and see clearly immediately.
We were also impressed by the 100,000+ cataract surgeries they’ve done. This level of experience is a testament to their skill and reliability in handling cataract surgeries.
We also appreciate the excellent aftercare support they provide. Patients we talked to raved about the clear and easy-to-follow aftercare instructions their eye doctors provided.
That said, one small downside to note is that the scheduling process for consultations can sometimes be slower than expected.
You are well looked after
“I recently had LASIK eye surgery with Dr Adam Watson and his team in September, in order to meet the vision requirements for the Police and NZDF. The procedure itself is a bit daunting but the team are very professional and reassuring, and help you every step of the way. You are well looked after, and the recovery, while uncomfortable initially, is very speedy. Within a month my eyesight is better than 20/20 and the majority of blurriness and light sensitivity after effects have completely faded. The dryness in my eyes has reduced nearly completely to the point where I don’t notice any difference.
I would definitely recommend getting surgery done if you’re a suitable candidate.”
