It’s no secret that dogs bring heaps of joy, especially here in the City of Sails, where you can walk and play together in many wide-open spaces—but bringing them to dining spots? That’s a different topic.
Fortunately, there are now plenty of dog-friendly cafes in Auckland, welcoming pooches to dine with their humans. Here are the best spots that have been rated 5 out of 5 by our pups! Stop woofing around and check them out!

Hello Sailor Cafe & Bakery is one of the cutest dog-friendly cafes in Auckland. It has a bright interior with pastel colours and comfy chairs.
While the humans dine on their fluffy donuts and delicious coffee, pups can enjoy their own puppaccino, which is basically milk that’s safe for dogs. They also have an outdoor seating area for you and your pup to soak up some Vitamin D.
One of the best things about this cafe is the location, which is a short walk away from Takapuna Beach. It’s a very dog-friendly place, so your pup can run around and have an absolute blast!
Pro Tip: If you’re bringing your dog to Takapuna Beach after a drink at the cafe, better check out the off-leash hours so they can freely run around. Another thing to keep in mind is the beach has different rules for leash hours for the summer and winter seasons. |

Bring your four-legged companion to Ozone Coffee Roasters because they’re super dog-friendly! They welcome pups not only in the outside seating area but also inside the cafe.
Before bringing your dog inside, make sure they’re on a lead at all times. They must also stay on the floors, and if they somehow misbehave, you and your pup may be asked to move outside—this is where their training will come in handy!
No matter the seating area, this cafe will be memorable because of the delicious coffee, like their cold brew. So, watch out for strong drinks that’ll wake you in the morning.
Pro Tip: If you have a shy dog that isn’t used to being near other pups, it’s best to sit outside. If they become restless, we don’t want them to cause disturbance to the patrons and other dogs. |

Plus, the cafe and the bistro are wheelchair accessible!

We love the food on Geeks on Sainsbury, but what makes them stand out more for us is because they’re very accommodating to dog owners and their pups.
They have plenty of tables in their outdoor area, so don’t be surprised to see lots of dogs enjoying the day with their humans. They even make dog patterns on their latte art, which is one of the reasons we love ordering a cappuccino.
And don’t skip out on the waffles and salmon eggs benny to keep you full before a day of adventure with your four-legged friend.
Also, there may or may not be a yummy treat for your pup (you didn’t hear it from us!). Just keep them on a lead and maybe whisper a command to act cute because mischievous dogs won’t get a treat.
Pro Tip: Head there early if you’re going on a weekend, as most tables will be taken. Then, you can walk your dog at the Western Springs Reserve, but keep them on a lead at all times. |

One of our favourite Auckland cafes to bring our dogs to is Benedict’s. The place has a very casual vibe, perfect for brunch or afternoon munchies.
They’re a super duper dog-friendly place, and they’ve earned loyal furry customers over time. Don’t be shy and ask the baristas if there are pup cups available for you to purchase as a doggie treat.
Now, when humans need to eat, it’s a good thing the cafe serves one of the best brunch menus we’ve tried. Their tasty bacon eggs Benedict is a must-try, along with their fluffy pancakes!
Pro Tip: Now that they’re getting popular, you can reserve a table on their website since there’s limited outdoor seating. |

The Stoned Cow Cafe is not your regular cafe, it’s your cool cafe! Besides serving delicious coffee and pastries, there are also sip-and-paint events to keep your creativity flowing.
But the best part has got to be how accommodating they are to doggies, with blankets and towels available inside, even bringing water and treats. Four-legged friends are also welcome to come inside the cafe, and humans can purchase a puppacino as a treat.
One more thing to add is they host dog adoption and foster events. They also have fundraisers that support dogs in the shelter, which are something worth checking out for animal lovers.

The ultimate place for good food and good coffee just a short walk from the beach is Kohi Beach Eatery & Store. They have a nice outdoor space to bring your dogs in, where you can get plenty of sunshine and smell the sea salt air.
The best time to visit is during brunch because of their delicious eggs Benedict. You also cannot leave without trying out their yummy and flaky pastries, such as pain au chocolat and croissant.
For the drinks, try their rich and yummy hot chocolate, the perfect drink on a cold day. Pair it with a plain croissant for an extra indulgent experience!
Pro Tip: After brunch, you can take your dog for a walk at Kohimarama Beach or Tamaki Drive. You need to keep your dog on a lead, but there are off-leash hours at the beach, which you can check on the Auckland Council website. |

A discovery we made is the Red Shed Palazzo, a place overflowing with pup love! They are clearly dog lovers, putting out plenty of dog bowls, and there are shades to keep your pups safe from the heat.
Just a wee bit of a drive from the Drury off-ramp, and you’ll reach this rural cafe tucked in a beautiful garden. It’s the ultimate tranquil place to visit, except for a few barks here and there—but hey, we’re not complaining!
Since you’re in a garden, why not try the cajun chicken breast salad? You can also get the delicious veg burger and add the famous fried sweetcorn fritters.
Pro Tip: Pop in on a Sunday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and check out the arts and crafts market. Local artists sell their homemade crafts, so drop by and show support! |

Calendula Cottage Cafe & Gardens is a nice spot in Parnell if you want to dine close to nature. The place is like a house with a huge garden, with plenty of outdoor tables and umbrellas.
You can bring your dogs any time as long as they stay on the grassy areas. That’s the majority of the place, though, so there are no worries about lack of space–even when there are many dogs.
While your pup is drinking from the dog bowl provided by the cafe, you can munch on The Stack, a stacked meal of hash cake with balsamic mushrooms and poached eggs. Their corn fritters with sweet chilli and homemade aioli are also a must-try!
Pro Tip: Bring cash in case their credit card terminal doesn’t work. It has happened before, and you won’t find cash machines nearby. |

With breathtaking views of the Harbour Bridge, Homeland has become one of the top places for outdoor brunches. This place makes delicious contemporary New Zealand and Pacific cuisine.
The brunch menu starts at eleven, and the Hangi pork belly is a particular favourite of ours. It comes with fried banana and paratha with date tamarind puree for sour undertones.
While they don’t exactly have a dog menu, our furry companions are welcome in the outside seating area. We reckon pups are going to love the breeze of fresh air, especially with birds flying in the sky.
Pro Tip: Better book a reservation if you’re coming on a weekend, just to make sure you have a spot in the outside seating area. Their restaurant can be packed on busy days. |
