The first time I tried doing acupuncture was for leisure; the next times after that became a necessity.
Massages are great for back pain (who doesn’t love a good knead?), but acupuncture hits differently. I slept better, my bloating eased up, and surprisingly, my period actually became regular.
So if you’ve been waiting for a sign to give it a shot, this is it.
Below are some of the top acupuncture clinics in Auckland that my friends and I swear by. And don’t worry, they’re nothing like that horror scene in Final Destination 5.
How much does acupuncture cost in Auckland?
Acupuncture in Auckland can cost between NZD $70 and NZD $90 per session privately.
If you’re covered by Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC), the price can drop to around NZD $10 to NZD $30 per session, depending on the clinic.
1. Medwell Acupuncture Clinic

Address: Room 11, 361 Great North Rd, Henderson
Phone: +64 9 600 2887
Business hours:
- Monday: 9:30 AM – 7 PM
- Tuesday to Wednesday: 9:30 AM – 5 PM
- Thursday: 9:30 AM – 7 PM
- Friday: 9:30 AM – 5 PM
- Saturday: 10 AM – 2 PM
- Sunday: Closed
Medwell combines acupuncture with other therapies like cupping and Tuina massage. When we asked about it, we were told these boost blood flow, loosen up stiff muscles, and help your body bounce back from stress or injury.
They also mix in modern techniques. It’s great if you’ve got specific problems or just want more than the basics.
An acupuncture session with cupping or a massage runs about NZD $80, and the full combo with all three treatments is NZD $100. It’s actually not bad for a full hour of hands-on care.
However, there isn’t a “just acupuncture” option. So if you’re on a budget or only want needling, the combo pricing might feel like a bit much.
If you’re covered by ACC, though, things get a lot easier. They keep billing simple. Most or all of your treatment can be covered, which helps take the sting out of the cost.
There are two acupuncturists in the clinic, and we’ve heard great stuff about them. Taewon Kim, in particular, gets a lot of praise—kind, professional, and clearly good at what he does.
One patient said he helped his wife with her knee, stomach, and even swallowing issues. Others said muscle injuries and pain got noticeably better after just a few visits.
Heartily recommended
“My wife has received very kind and professional service from an acupuncturist. Both Luna and Taewon were extremely helpful in assisting with overcoming knee, stomach, and swallowing issues. Now well on the way to recovery. Heartily recommended.”

2. Happipuncture Clinic

Address: 512a East Coast Road, Windsor Park
Phone: +64 9 218 2992
Business hours:
- Monday to Friday: 9:30 AM – 7:30 PM
- Saturday to Sunday: 9:30 AM – 5 PM
Happipuncture understands the benefits of traditional Chinese medicine and modern Western practices.
That is why this clinic offers the best of both. For instance, they use lab tests or imaging when needed, getting to the bottom of issues quickly.
Whats more, they personalise their integration of Chinese based on your body, lifestyle, stress, and more.
Since they often mix their acupuncture treatment with other services, we liked how their practitioners collaborate. They meet for joint consultations and actually talk through your case together.
This allows patients to benefit from multiple experts rather than a single practitioner’s view.
People we heard from liked their consultation, too. They take into account everything, including your sleep patterns and medical history. Moreover, they even reassess along the way and adjust as your condition changes.
Something else that stood out is their cosmetic acupuncture. Happipuncture developed their own way of doing facial treatments, but it’s not just about looks.
They see your skin as a reflection of internal health, so sessions often include digestive support or stress relief along with the facial work.
Although most feedback we heard was positive, we noticed that a few people hinted at long wait times or limited appointment availability. They’re very popular, so consider booking early.
After starting my treatment, I can feel the difference every time
“I sprained my ankle a month ago, was painful and upset at the time. After starting my treatment with Caren, I can feel the difference every time. She is so professional and patient that she makes me not afraid of needles anymore. Every single time she asks about my feelings and discomfort, to adjusts the treatment. The best physical therapist I’ve found in Auckland because of her exceptional skills and attitude. I would like to give 10 stars if there were an option. I already recommend friends and family because of the results I have had. Almost free to walk around now!!!”

3. NZ Acupuncture Works

Address: 7 Westminster Road, Mount Eden
Phone: +64 9 222 3337
Business hours:
- Monday to Sunday: 9 AM – 6 PM
We noticed that all of the acupuncturists in NZ Acupuncture Works are fully registered, and almost all are trained in China. It matters more than it might sound. Some places offer modern versions of the practice, but this clinic sticks to the traditional roots.
Instead of just targeting pain in the shoulder or neck, they look at how that pain fits into what’s going on with your whole body. Some people said they felt better after just one session, especially with muscular tension and stiffness.
We also appreciate how personalised their treatments are. They pick acupuncture points based on your body’s overall state and how things are changing week to week.
They also mix in other therapies like cupping, moxibustion, and tuina to boost the effects of the acupuncture.
When we spoke to patients, they loved how calm and clean the atmosphere at the clinic.
A few people said they were nervous about needles going in, but felt relaxed after meeting the practitioner. They were very gentle and friendly.
Because of the clinic’s reputation, they’re quite popular around the are,a and they’re often booked. You might as well schedule early if you’re considering them.

4. Good Health Acupuncture & Physiotherapy

Address: 26B Wilkinson Road, Main Entrance on Gavin Street, Ellerslie
Phone: +64 22 095 8690
Business hours:
- Monday to Saturday: 9 AM – 6 pm
- Sunday: Closed
We were particularly drawn to how Good Health structures its initial consultation. They sit down with new clients and go deep into their health history.
From what we gathered, this helps them create treatment plans that go beyond short-term relief and focus on long-term balance.
They also mix acupuncture with physiotherapy when needed. That combo seems to really work for stuff like shoulder pain, sports injuries, or post-surgery recovery.
One person mentioned how their pain slowly melted away after doing acupuncture, cupping, and physio together. It’s like East meets West, but make it practical.
Something that we didn’t expect was their cosmetic acupuncture, which they do really well. We didn’t even know it’s a thing. But basically, this helps boost collagen and smooth out fine lines on your face. Plus, it’s way more relaxing than Botox.
Pricing is fair, especially if you’re under ACC. Regular sessions run from NZD $55 to $80, but with ACC, the first visit is $35 and follow-ups are just $25. And you don’t need a referral either, which makes booking easy.
Their cancellation policy is a little strict, though. A now-show means you pay full private fees even if you’re an ACC patient. So maybe set a reminder or two.
Their expertise and attentive approach made the healing process effective
“Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Tina and Dr. Henry for their exceptional care! After my shoulder injury, they designed a tailored recovery plan for me—combining acupuncture, cupping, and physiotherapy—which gradually relieved pain and restored mobility. Their expertise, paired with their warm and attentive approach, made the healing process reassuring and effective. Highly recommend their clinic for anyone seeking skilled, compassionate treatment!”

5. GLOWbody Acupuncture

Address: 35 Ponsonby Road, Ponsonby
Phone: +64 21 136 4154
Business hours:
- Monday to Friday: 9 AM – 6:30 PM
- Saturday: 9 AM – 3 PM
- Sunday: Closed
GLOWbody Acupuncture specialises in women’s health. They focus on hormone balancing, fertility, postpartum recovery, and more.
One client we spoke to has been going weekly and loved Annika, one of the acupuncturists. She described her as calm, helpful, and genuinely invested in the experience.
We loved that the sessions weren’t just about placing needles—they were also educational. Their practitioners actually explain what’s happening with your body.
The clinic also offers cosmetic acupuncture. It’s not an overnight fix, but if you’re patient and looking for a natural alternative to Botox, you might want to try it. They’re very clear that results take a handful of sessions, which we appreciated.
The vibe of the place is a mix of wellness spa and quiet retreat. It’s calm, clean, and almost too relaxing. You might even forget you’re at a clinic.
That said, the pricing is a bit higher than the other clinics we looked into. However, their deep expertise in women’s health makes them stand out to us.
If you’re someone who’s ready to invest in healing this aspect of your health, they might just be worth it.

I tell everyone about Hannah and GLOWbody – it’s the type of self-love that your body and mind will love you for”
