The perfect spot for an afternoon beer is Hallertau Brewery & Biergarten. The ambience of their venues is very welcoming, complete with outdoor seating to soak in some Vitamin D.

You can taste bottled and tap beers here, such as ale, lager, IPA (India Pale Ale), and double stout. There’s a drink for everyone here because you can also have tap cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages.

One of the popular things customers love is their food, best paired with a pint, of course. If you’re having a strong glass of beer, pair it with a juicy grilled sirloin to balance out the taste.

Pro Tip:
Bring your furry companion along. Dogs are allowed at the outdoor seating!

Brown’s Brewing Company is a must-visit in Auckland, as they feature their own craft beers and other breweries in New Zealand.

They’re located near the beach, which means you get to take in the beautiful views of Hauraki Gulf while dining in. Plus, there are 22 taps to choose from, which includes pale ale, lager, pilsner, and sour beer.

We suggest you pair your craft beer with their beachfront platter, which includes BBQ pork ribs, fried chicken, and calamari. We also want to add that a pale ale particularly goes well with pork.

Pro Tip:
Try to sit in the garden if there’s an available table. It’s a nice place to have beer on an afternoon.

If you’re looking for a casual place for beer, head over to Brothers Beer at Mount Eden, which has a retro vibe. It shares a place with Juke Joint, so you can dine on delicious southern-style BBQ while drinking cold beer.

For an afternoon sip, we recommend the tasting paddle, which gives you five 150ml glasses of tap beer and cider, a great option to find out what you like. An exclusive at the place is their Twist’d lemon and lime, a combination of fruit juice and vodka soda.

They’re also easy to get to, especially for commuters. They’re just a hop away from Mount Eden station, making them an easy brewery to visit for Aucklanders.

Pro Tip:
Only after 5:30 pm can you park at Regal Castings. But if you’re coming earlier than that, there’s off-street parking right behind the brewery.

We recommend the Diamond Head Hazy IPA if you want a summer vibes type of drink. It has citrus flavours, and you can taste some notes of grapefruit and pineapple for that ultimate summer vacation!

Pair your beer with a burger from their very own food place, Burgernaut. Aside from meat, they also have a good selection of vegetarian and vegan options—there’s an option for everyone here!

Despite serving beer, Little Creatures Brewing is still a family-friendly spot. They have a menu specifically for kids and an on-site play area to keep the little ones busy!

This is a go-to for casual hangouts, with an incredible menu that pairs really well with beer. We recommend their beer-battered fish and chips paired with their very own Catalina lager, a refreshing drink with citrus notes.

Watch out for their seasonal releases that will be your next favourite beer. You can also check out their tasting paddle, which includes four choices of 185ml beer on tap.

The Beer Tap is easy to reach with six locations in Auckland: Northcote, Huapai, Kingsland, Whangaparāoa, Panmure, and Papakura. It’s never boring at this spot because they have 40 rotating beer taps in all their locations.

While they don’t exactly have their own brewery, they feature different Kiwi beer factories every month, whether you’re looking for an ale or a lager. Don’t forget to bring a Roadie home, a 1 litre purged and pressure-filled glass of your favourite beer.

There’s also delicious food to pair your beer with, as they invite different food trucks each week at all their venues. They also bring back some customer favourites!

Pro Tip:
Always check their website for their calendar of events. It’s how you’ll know which brewery and food truck they will invite at each location.

Churly’s Brewpub & Eatery

Operating Hours:

  • Monday – Tuesday: Closed

  • Sunday – 12:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Bring your pups to Churly’s Brewpub & Eatery on a sunny afternoon and sip on your favourite Behemoth beer! They’re home to Behemoth Brewing Company, offering a large selection of good beer—there are 30 taps!

Using only the highest ingredients with a traditional fermenting process, they bring an assortment of flavours, including fruity, sour, and chocolatey goodness! There are also hazy IPAs with a smooth mouthfeel and without a bitter aftertaste.

Try the Brave Bikkie, considered a dessert beer, a bestseller and a winner at the Brewers Guild of New Zealand in 2014, 2015, and 2016! You can also dine with their tasty food menu, and their burgers make this one hell of a spot!

Pro Tip:
There aren’t a lot of parking spots in front of the pub, so go behind Target Furniture to find more. If you see Brave Bikkie is available, we suggest getting it immediately and taking home a few bottles—a dozen will do, maybe? It’s not an easy beer to make, so Behemoth produces it only once a year, sometimes not at all!

The Brewers Co-operative is a chill hangout in Auckland, complete with outdoor seating for a casual lunch or dinner. But the good stuff starts with their 20 rotating taps of craft beer to cater to everyone’s taste.

This is the spot for some beer and chips, which is also beer-battered. Plus, they carry a wide selection of New Zealand craft beer, including 8 Wired Brewing for those hazy IPAs and coffee milk stouts.

They also hold watch-party events, including sports from other countries. They recently showed the Super Bowl LVIII with the Chiefs and the 49ers—so watch out for new sports events!

It’s always a good idea to have Epic Beer. As an award-winning brewery in New Zealand, they have created some of the best-tasting beer in the country!

They only have ten taps, but these always change for new options, and they also include their new releases, which is all the more reason to visit! There are fridges full of beer cans, too, which also include a selection that’s hard to come by.

Now, this is a fun hangout place that brings in old-school vibes. Bring gold coins and play arcade with your friends, complete with 80s music at the taproom.
