Top 5 Auto Body Shops in Auckland (For Dents, Scrapes & Collision Repairs)

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

It takes a lot of trust to hand over your keys. We looked for the specific things that give you peace of mind while your vehicle is getting body work done:

Workmanship and Quality of Finish: We looked for perfect paint matching and repairs that make dents disappear completely. Your car should look exactly the way it did before the accident, or perhaps even better.

Customer Communication and Service: A smooth process means clear updates, honest timelines, and a team that takes the stress out of the situation. Getting a courtesy car and having them deal directly with your insurer are big bonuses.

Insurance and Certification Status: We focused on shops that regularly handle insurance work and hold recognised trade memberships or manufacturer approvals. That way, you’re choosing places that work to modern safety and repair standards.

Turnaround Time and Efficiency: We selected shops that prioritise efficiency, ensuring you get back on the road without sacrificing repair quality.

Driving in Auckland means your car might eventually encounter a bump or a scrape.

Maybe a shopping cart was feeling adventurous, or perhaps you had a bigger ding in a busy car park or a full-on accident. When that happens, you need a body shop you can trust.

The big goal is to get quality repairs that make your car look great again, keep its value, and make sure it’s safe to drive, especially after an accident.

To help you out, I have researched and compiled a list of highly-rated auto body shops in Auckland.

You can find specialists for minor cosmetic fixes alongside experts equipped for heavy-duty restoration.

How much does auto body repair cost in Auckland?

It helps to have a rough idea of what body work might cost, even though the price tags can vary. For instance, a small dent repair using a paintless dent removal (PDR) technique typically starts around $150 and can go up to $350, depending on the extent of the damage. If you need a more complex panel beater job or a full respray, prices can climb quite a bit. Major collision repairs are often handled through insurance, but remember that you will still need to cover your deductible, which can range from a few hundred dollars to over a thousand. For any private work, like custom painting or restoration, it is always a smart move to shop around and get a few quotes to make sure you are getting the best deal.

Customer Reviews

Prestige did some body work and rim work on my car, not only did they do the job to a very high standard but also gave the car back clean as a whistle! They also gave gifts along with it! Thanks Ken and the team, 10/10 would recommend!

Ken and his team did an amazing job, can you believe they open for couple hours just to fix your car on Sunday? The job they did is perfect, good service and highly efficient. Strongly recommended.

2. Main Autocentre

main-autocentre

Website: https://www.mainautocentre.co.nz/

Address: 90 Gavin Street, Ellerslie, Auckland

Contact: 09-580-0323

Hours

  • Monday to Friday: 7:30 AM–5:00 PM
  • Saturday: 8:00 AM–12:00 PM

Main Autocentre functions as an all-in-one automotive solution, combining body work with mechanical maintenance.

Busy drivers often like that it’s a true ‘key-to-key’ experience. You drop the car off once and they sort both the collision repairs and the mechanical side.

You can sort out your Warrant of Fitness (WOF), window tinting, and general mechanical repairs while the bodywork gets done.

Having this whole range of services available in one spot is super convenient, especially if you’re managing a company fleet or just want to knock out multiple services at once.

Main Autocentre’s communication has always been professional and prompt, keeping me updated on the repair process.

The only minor drawback is that since they provide many services, their focus might occasionally seem split between the mechanical and collision repair sides.

Despite that, their body work gets consistently strong feedback, and the finish quality is usually excellent. Plus the convenience factor is truly hard to beat.

Pros

  • Full “Key to Key” service, including WOF and mechanical repairs
  • Excellent, prompt, and clear customer communication
  • Approved for a vast range of insurance claims
  • Dedicated fleet management services are available

Cons

  • A large range of services might mean less specialisation focus

Customer Reviews

I had a wonderful experience.  Professional, great communication, on time completion, excellent workmanship.  The team worked together to ensure my car was returned in pristine condition.  I’m pleased I followed the referral given to me and used their services, as the experience was exactly as promised. I did not appreciate trying to be persuaded by the insurance company to use one of their own repair providers, whose profits go offshore rather than supporting New Zealand businesses and our local economy.

I was involved in a minor accident where someone had side swiped my vehicle and Main Autocentre were assigned to do the repairs on my car. Dealing with the staff here was an extremely pleasant experience, communication was prompt and clear, a courtesy car was provided whilst my car was out of action and i had it back within a week, all shiny and clean looking like a brand new car! Cannot thank the team enough for the repairs. 10/10 would recommend.

Beyond their speed, they offer genuinely warm, professional service. The staff is great about taking the time to explain the repair process clearly and answer any questions you have.

They’re highly skilled, handle plenty of insurance work, and aim for a very high standard of finish. As an added bonus, they often include a full interior and exterior clean for your car.

Note that their operating hours end at 4:30 PM, which may make an afternoon pick-up tight for a standard 9-to-5 job. However, their early 7:00 AM opening time is convenient for morning drop-offs.

Pros

  • Exceptional efficiency and incredibly fast turnaround times
  • Known for going the extra mile, including detailed cleaning
  • Flawless and professional repair work
  • Staff are warm, welcoming, and excellent communicators

Customer Reviews

Excellent Service! Had my car repaired here (via insurance) and was blown away by the professionalism and friendliness of the whole team. The repairs were flawless, they also cleaned the car inside and out—it looked brand new! I noticed a small paint patch missed, and they fixed it straight away, no questions asked. They made me feel heard and respected—no question or concern was ever treated as silly. Reliable, skilled, and genuinely caring staff which is sadly rare these days. Highly recommend! Thank you!!

The team was so warm and welcoming and answered all my questions from what needed to be repaired, how it was to be done and how long it would take. Totally blew me away when I received a call just after lunchtime to say it was ready after dropping my car off at 8am that morning! Totally recommend Mt Roskill Collision Centre!

Customer Reviews

Amazing first time customer experience! Professional, efficient and genuinely friendly. Chamara was an absolute legend! Took my car in for a wof and he identified an issue I hadn’t noticed and got everything sorted within the timeframe promised.  Hands down the best mechanical team I’ve dealt with and very reasonably priced. Much appreciated.

Best mechanics in east auckland. They treat you like family. Their customer service is on point. Good on price too. They do all sorts here so if your car needs a mechanic then go here to get your car fix.

The team at Precision were so professional and helpful. They have amazing customer service and really went the extra mile to help me. I recommend them to anyone. They will make a potentially stressful situation with repairing your car, and smooth and effortless one with outstanding results.

My Tesla was involved in a hit-and-run, and I had to select a repair shop from Tesla’s list of authorized repairers. Choosing Precision Autowerks turned out to be the best decision I could have made. They delivered the vehicle on time as promised, maintained clear and hassle-free communication throughout, and when a minor issue was found in the finish, it was promptly addressed. I’d be more than happy to return for any future servicing—both for my own vehicle and to recommend them to others.
