Make it Sweet 12 Best Spots for Dessert in Auckland

We might have earned a cavity or two doing the research for this one, but do we really care? After hopping from one dessert shop to another, we can confidently say that Auckland really is a sweet-tooth’s paradise.

From upscale stores to cozy patisseries, the city has all the sweet shops you can imagine. That said, our personally handpicked list of the best spots for dessert in Auckland is finally ready!

Giapo

Address: 12 Gore Street, Auckland CBD, Auckland 1010, New Zealand

Contact details: +64 21 412 402

Operating hours: Tuesday – Saturday: 12:30 PM – 10:30 PM | Sunday: 12:30 PM – 10:00 PM

Gore Street’s Giapo is a hotspot for ice cream and gelato lovers, dishing out what they call ‘haute ice cream’ and they nail it! As soon as you step into their store, you’re greeted by a friendly host, ready to assist you with your candy shopping.

You’ll find some wild combos like chorizo with caramel and a Greek ‘akataifi’ pastry or chocolate and blue cheese – sounds beyond this world, but definitely worth a try if you’re feeling adventurous. But don’t worry, all the classics are covered too, done up just right.

On top of that, Giapo takes its ice cream game seriously, offering a five-flavor tasting menu and a bunch of fancy cones covered in artisan chocolates, yogurts, and sprinkles.

All in all, when it comes to ice cream and gelato, there is no better offering than this dessert destination. Plus, they are entirely gluten-free, so you can indulge without the guilt of breaking your diet.

VANIYÉ Patisserie

Website: https://www.vaniye.com/

Address: 1/7 Windsor Street, Parnell, Auckland 1052, New Zealand

Operating hours: Tuesday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM | Saturday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Auckland has a bunch of spots for French pastries, but none quite hit the mark like Vaniyé. For just $10, you can dive into their world of desserts, and you won’t regret it.

Every morning, their display is filled with fresh pastries and cakes, and you can even order online through their website.

Vaniyé rocks the classics like millefeuille, croissants, and éclairs, but the real gems are pastry chef Sonia Haumonte’s designer cakes. They’re simply perfect for birthdays, weddings, or any special occasion.

You will also find vegetarian savory tarts and filled baguette rolls for lunch. And even though they close in the evenings, you can always grab your dessert to-go for dinner.

Amano

Website: https://savor.co.nz/amano

Address: 66 – 68, Tyler Street, Britomart Place, Auckland 1010, New Zealand

Contact details: +64 9 394 1416

Even though it’s not exactly a dessert joint, Amano claims a spot for its killer dessert menu. This restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so whenever hunger strikes, Amano has you covered.

And as a bonus, this means their dessert menu is available around the clock!

They might not have a huge dessert selection, but what they do have is seriously tasty. Picture raspberry sorbet scoops and gelato sticks in flavors like raspberry & vanilla, blueberry & cheesecake, strawberry & pistachio, and more.

Plus, they also serve cheese plates and even dessert cocktails and wines if you’re in the mood for a more ‘mature’ dessert experience.

Pro tip: For a quick treat to go, they also boast an amazing French bakery and patisserie that’s definitely worth checking out!

If you’re after a yummy dessert that’s also fun to eat, then OKO is the spot to hit up. Check out their plated dessert menu for treats like the Signature Chocolate Volcano, Lemon Lava Cake, Apple Feijoa, Chocolate Fondant, and Hazelnut S’more.

While everything is amazing, the chocolate volcano is an absolute must-try. It has salted caramel mousse, coffee cake, crunchy chocolate sponge, vanilla milk foam, and salted caramel chocolate sauce.

It’s no surprise why it’s called a volcano – it practically erupts with flavor. Really the perfect treat if you’re obsessed with sweets.

And that’s not all – they also serve up Belgian waffles, chai lattes, dark chocolate & salted caramel ice cream drinks, and cocktails. All of which our staff tried and loved – including our friends who aren’t exactly into sweets.

Just keep in mind: they start serving waffles at 11:00 AM, but you’ll have to wait until 3:00 PM for the plated dessert menu to kick in.

Chocolate Boutique, perched atop Parnell Rise, has been dishing out heavenly chocolate treats for ages. They offer over 100 handmade gourmet chocolates like truffles, nutty rochers, and pralines, plus a bunch of imported goodies in the cabinet.

But today, it’s not just a chocolate shop. The boutique also boasts cozy indoor and outdoor seating and a menu that goes beyond just chocolates.

Here, you can munch on hot desserts like chocolate steamed pudding or freshly cooked waffles, or go all out with a hot fudge sundae.

And if you need a break from all the chocolate, they have cool treats like passion fruit parfaits too. But let’s be real, you’re probably here for the chocolate fix!

Their drinks menu is pretty awesome as well, with unique cocoa-infused hot drinks you won’t find anywhere else.

Imagine sipping on a thick, rich Italian hot chocolate with a kick of Mexican spice or chili. There’s also the ‘submarino’, which is hot steamed milk with melting chocolate bars of all kinds.

Eggloo stands out as one of the most budget-friendly dessert destinations in the city, but here’s the catch: it’s only open on weeknights (except for weekends when it opens in the afternoon). Still, the delicious treats here are worth waiting for.

For newcomers, Eggloo is renowned for its Hong Kong-style egg waffles and ice cream. You have options here: you can opt for the waffle on its own, Chinese-style with no toppings, or you can dive into the crowd favorite: a waffle with a filling.

And if you’re up for an adventure, don’t miss out on the Eggloo waffle sandwich!

But if you’re all about capturing that perfect Instagram shot, then the egg waffle & ice cream combo is a must.

On top of all that, ordering at Eggloo couldn’t be easier: just pick your preferred ice cream flavor and toppings to go with your freshly made waffles, and you’re all set!

Little & Friday

Website: http://www.littleandfriday.com/

Address: 11 McColl Street, Newmarket, Auckland 1023, New Zealand

Operating hours: Monday – Sunday: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM

If you haven’t heard about this place yet, you’re missing out! Little and Friday whip up some amazing savory treats, but it’s their sweet stuff that really steals the show for Auckland’s twenty-somethings.

The place itself is aesthetically pleasing, perfect for your feed, with its oversized individual cakes and tarts adorned with gigantic garnishes.

But if you’re a Nutella fan, we’re sure you’ll love their hazelnut-coated Baci cakes. Their inventive fruit tarts are equally praiseworthy in addition to their chocolate chili donuts, which have quite a reputation of their own.

On weekends, this Newmarket café always has a line out the door, so make sure to stop by early for your to-go dessert. But if you prefer to dine in, Little and Friday is still a fantastic option where you can’t go wrong with having dessert for lunch.
