Meet LEO+BE’S age of influence

Taking inspiration from a group of New Zealand’s most watched, this season fashion label LEO+BE pays homage to a crew of young, fashion-focussed Kiwis.

Branded the ‘Age of Influence’, the winter collection sports an edit of pieces each named after local digital identities who are genuinely shaping the fashion conversation.

Looking to inject playfulness into New Zealand’s millennial fashion scene, sisters and designers Jenny Drury and Brenda Wilkinson were motivated to develop the collection after noting that today’s consumers were more focussed on the street style and inspiration happening locally than the seasonal disparity of the Northern Hemisphere.

A prime example is kiwi girl Cassidy Morris. Introduced as LEO+BE’s first campaign model back in 2017, Cassidy was hand-picked for her alignment with the brand. Now at the age of 24 Cassidy has most recently been named the host of Bravo and has a feed that shows an unpolished, achievable eye into fashion both high and low.

“More than just a style icon”, says designer Jenny Drury, “the LEO+BE girl is a young, aspirational twentysomething woman ready to take on the world and all it has to offer.

“We’ve had the opportunity to work with a lot of these girls in the past and it’s become a great way to acknowledge them and their inimitable personal style,” says Jenny.

The collection stays true to its roots, featuring 27 ready to wear styles for the ‘every girl’. Retro jeans and plush-faux fur bomber jackets mix with playful prints and casual cool beanies, skirts and separates.

Other local names who feature in the collection include Ella Yelich-O’Connor (Lorde), Matilda Rice and Maddy Budd, and Jenny notes the brand’s fans will have a bit of fun working out which pieces are named after who.

Since its debut in 2017, LEO+BE has produced four versatile collections showcasing mix and match pieces with individual style and flair.

LEO+BE winter’18 will be available online and 60 retailers across New Zealand from April 2018. For the full store listing in New Zealand please visit
